I don't paint much that had to do with vehicles but I want to paint the chrome Toyota symbol emblems on my wheels black. I have this rattle can in the garage, will it do the trick? Sorry if I sound stupid but I'd rather ask and do it right the first time cuz I've never painted over chrome.

Yes. Just sand it a little bit and you're good.

Make sure you pop the emblem off the center cap from the back side, I used a screwdriver and mallet on the tabs and then pulled from the front. Scuffed the emblems with 600 grit and hit it with etching primer quick and then lightly scuffed and hit it with krylon black rattle can. I’ve had bad luck spraying straight onto plastic without primer and it lasting.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Just use a scotchbrite and clean with alcohol.

If you're going to take the emblems off the caps, you might as well strip the chrome plating. (Soak in strong bleach for 2 weeks.) Striping the plating works much better than scuffing it, for paint adhesion. But, since the underlying plastic is black, there may be no need for painting at all.

So I tried the bleach method first. 3 days later with changing the bleach twice a day, no changes, just a little black residue floating. Sorry, I was impatient with these. Took them out, cleaned them off and sanded with 400grit paper. Not a perfect sanding, just enough to scuff up the chrome. First put some primer on, then some satin black, then topped it with satin clear coat. Very pleased with the result!

Looks great! I’m glad I did mine, made me not want to get rid of the OEM wheels like I initially wanted too.

you can also check Etsy. Tons of folks out there make center cap covers with all kinds of design. If you ever get tired of the Toyota logo.
