    Hello everyone,

I have a 2005 Tacoma X-Runner with 220k miles. It has had trouble starting recently, and so I went to the auto parts store and they did some diagnostics said battery seemed fine, and alternator also seemed fine. Battery is also only 6 months old. So, started to check for parasitic draw.

With the car off, doors unlocked, and hood open, it draws 0.25 amps for a couple of minutes, then it drops to 0.04 amps. When I lock the doors, that draw goes up to about 0.12 amps.

    1. Can someone confirm whether or not the 0.12 amp draw when doors are locked is too much?
    2. Does the hood being shut play any importance here?
    3. I've checked all of the small easy to pull fuses in the engine bay, and under the dash (driver's side). Any other fuse locations?
    4. Should I pull any relays? Should I pull the big fuses? Both are a pain to pull out.

I wonder if an actuator is sticking.

0.080 is max 0.040 is ideal. Hood has no sensor or switch.

The door locks are powered by the body ecu via a 20amp "DR LCK" fuse by the drivers kick panel. Remove that fuse first, then likely remove the door trim and isolate which may be causing the issue.

0.12a is a lot for parasitic draw (120ma).

Do you have any security systems (factory or aftermarket)? Aftermarket stereo? Aftermarket anything electrical?

Hey everyone thanks for the replies. You were correct It was an aftermarket alarm.

Removing the DR LCK fuse didn’t change the draw. Then, I unplugged the connector going to the door locks in the door panels. Still too much (I guess kinda makes sense since pulling the fuse did nothing). Then, I looked under the driver kick panel fuse block, and there was still lots of stuff spliced into the oem wiring that was hidden near the fuse block in drivers kick panel.

Removed all of that stuff and reconnected some wires and now draws 0.04 amps locked and unlocked. Feels good.

Thanks again for all the [dramatic… pause] help!
