My only advice is that at the first sign of the insurance company trying to get out of declaring it totaled (it obviously is) lawyer up. I just recently got screwed by this on my wife's CRV by USAA, of all people. We've both been with them for upwards of 30 years, no claims, and they went out of their way to not total the vehicle, to not pay her ER bills, and to make the process as hard as possible. I was stunned. Wish we'd gotten a lawyer, and if we are so unfortunate as to have this happen again, that will be the second phone call I make.

If you can't trust USAA to do the right thing by you, you can't trust anyone. I'm here to tell you all it's official, you can't trust anyone.

    That sucks!

A few years ago i was awoken to a huge crash sound followed by the sound of a damaged car limping away. Looked outside and a cavalier, mid block, had been hit and thrown right up on the front lawn. Was crazy. Another drunk! Hit the Cavalier, then took off afterwards.

Oh man that sucks. If there's no structural damage to the frame and suspension it may not be totaled. But I agree you're probably going to want it to be.

Wow ... Dammit, now I got something to worry about. But appreciate your sharing that. Better to be aware now.

I mentioned earlier if anything got sketchy, call a lawyer ... I'll go with FTD now.

Good luck, OP! Hope they total it out for you, because that poor truck would never be the same if they tried to fix it. Glad that you or any others weren't in the vehicle when it happened. Praying insurance treats you right!

Sorry about the truck. Count your blessings, nobody got hurt....probably not even the drunk, unbelievable how that seems to work.

We had a guy driving his company truck drunk at about 10PM where I used to work. He was driving 60 or so down a 55MPH road heading towards a tight S turn that leads up to an intersection with a two lane state highway. He completely missed the turn, went off the road, down an embankment, back uphill again, and jumped the two lane highway (cleared it). The truck was a 2004 Ford Ranger, it was pretty much bent in half between the cab and bed. Something caught fire under the hood, luckily he was not trapped in the truck. A witness told the highway patrol they saw a man matching this guy's description, wearing his company work shirt, running from the scene. The next morning the owner of the company had two messages on his phone. The first one was the Highway Patrol, telling this story. The second message was the drunk, claiming the truck was stolen out of his driveway sometime during the night. Fawk drunk drivers.

Good luck, it will get straightened out eventually.

Considering the KBB value is extremely overrated, you can probably walk away with a brand new tacoma if you have some haggling skills.

It doesn't look that bad in that pic, but for your sake I hope they total it.

It seems like a lot of us have a similar story. Our old place had a nice house accross the street with well to do parents who were on an extended european travel/job and their dipshit teenage sons were ALWAYS having a loud party or having some issue there is no way their parents knew about.

One night my wife woke me up because there was a really loud car that pulled into their driveway and they were screaming. I went outside and watched them from the dark and the front of their truck had been rammed into something and screwed up bad which was probably the belts etc she was hearing that were screwed up. They were doing the normal "wtf are we gonna DO dude?!" conversations and then started unscrewing a license plate from another neighbors parked truck to switch with theirs. I was like, hell no! I called the police and asked if they had any hit and runs reported in the last half hour and they are like, "well yes we do.. someone crashed through a brick wall into someones backyard and then drove away.." hehehe I'm like, "Well you might want to go to this address.. they are switching license plates with another truck on the street right now and might not be here long." I have never seen so many cop cars arrive within about the next 3 minutes.
