I've come across this forum many times over the past couple years and have found your posts very helpful. So thank you for that.

It finally warmed up around here so I thought I would crawl under the truck and take some slack out of the parking brake cable, spray the springs to help free everything up, etc. The bell crank on the drivers side was frozen solid so I pulled it, sanded the rust off, greased the pivot and put it back together. As I was checking the functionality of my newly freed up part, i noticed the cable at the drivers side doesn't appear to move more than a few mm's when the brake is pulled from inside the cab, nor does the bell crank lever expand the pads inside the drum when moved out.
When the rear wheel is off the ground, I can move the bell crank lever several inches but it won't hold the wheel from rotating under the least bit of pressure.
Even if the lever did move the pads enough to stop the wheel, it looks like the end of the drivers side cable (for the left rear wheel) is just bolted to the housing of the main cable going to the right rear wheel. I was hoping someone could explain how things are supposed to work or point me to a thread that I missed in my searching.

tl;dr- Need help understanding parking brake so I can figure out what isn't working. I'm used to seeing a brake cable go from inside the car to a yoke that splits cable into two. One cable for each rear wheel that pull at the same time.

Look under Mods & Tutorials for 1st Generation DIY & How to's, there is a link on adjusting the E-brake.

It turned out that the housing where the drivers side parking brake cable is clamped to was rusted as well. This did not allow for the drivers side brake to work when the cable was pulled. Lubing this assembly fixed one of my issues.
