So in my truck, after disengaging the parking break, you have to put it in reverse (manual, 5sp) roll back about a foot, then throw it into 1st and the parking break will disengage.

What is a guess on the problem/fix?

Start by removing drum and inspecting the shoes and mechanism.

The cable housing inlet on the back of the drum backing plate is known for cracking and the cable binds inside with all the corrosion, especially when it’s colder.
