It would have been great if I could have buffed it out.
Unfortunately the scratch is through the clear coat and deep
    into the base color.

Meh, spray some clear over it so it doesn't rust.
Now you don't have to worry about putting the first scratch on it anymore. It's truly liberating

Don’t worry, Karma will paying the asshole a visit. It might be tomorrow, next week, or within the 30 years but Karma always wins:)

You have heard the saying that “you don’t own a nice car, a nice car owns you”. It’s true because you are always keeping it clean, worrying over paint chips, parking carefully, etc. Ask any exotic car owner. It’s usually one of the reasons why they sell the vehicle within a year or two.

Nice sentiment. I know you are being supportive. Haven't seen this karma thing in my lifetime. The OP doesn't know the asshole so he will never see this karma thingamahjig.

I do know that no matter how much I try to stay out of trouble, trouble always finds you. Now, that I have seen many times.

You don't want to stoop to their level and cause damage. However, I always carry a valve core remover. Remove core, all air escapes, and then you decide if you leave them the cores or let them buy new ones.

I would find a good detailing shop. I had a really nasty one on my driver door. The dealership where I bought my truck has a great detailing shop. They did an amazing job of fixing it. It's barely visible and they didn't even charge me for fixing it.

Could have been some punk kid. Seems like that is the thing to do today. They even brag about it in school and they specifically look for nice cars. Sorry that happened to your truck.

One of the reasons I have a dash cam that records even when parked.

You can, it just has to be under lock and key, behind a double layer of bullet proof glass, (ya gotta be able to at least look at it). In a titanium box.

Try and buff it out... a good .paint repair is going to need to blend the paint on the door and front fender, causing both to then be clear coated as well. Also means the Tacoma badge gets replaced as well as the black sticker on the door.

I’d try and live with it if you can... but still sucks.
