My apologies, you're right, talked to my daughter, the check came two days later. Sorry.

This was a high power Beverly Hills attorney writing the demand letter. There were possible neck injuries involved, the insurance company knew their clients statements made no sense, they would lose if it went to court, didn't see the repair estimate, would be paying attorney's fees on both sides. They actually got off cheap. The attorney said they could get more but wanted a quick settlement. My daughter agreed and signed off on all future liability.

very few.... very few people give a crap about their own cars let alone the one next to them. I can't stand taking my stuff (car, motorcycle or Taco) anywhere because even if you park "far out" I swear some idiot driving a turd always ends up next to me.
Society sucks in general... just sayin

This is half the reason why I have rock sliders. I smile everytime I find a streak of someone else's paint on the powdercoat. I wipe it off and carryon with my day.

Sorry Mr mtntacoVA to hear that your car got dinged. I hate to see people have the nice things they work hard for messed up by people who just don't care.

When I met my husband he had a Ford Explorer that had 250K miles and it still looked like new. For now the Tacoma is our only car so I drive it every day. I had to first be trained. The training included :
    - Park were there are no cars but don't take up two spots so someone doesn't key our truck
    - If I can't park away from cars find an end spot and park as close to the curb as possible; don't rub the tires on the curb
    - Make sure where ever I park I'm not in the path of, or down hill from, shopping carts
    - Under no circumstances am I to park next to a beat up car as it's a sign that they don't care about their own stuff so they won't care about ours
Other misc rules for while he is away:
    - No eating or drinking in the truck
    - Wipe the dash and the leather seats once a week with 303 pretectant but never spray anything directly on the dash lenes cause stuff will get behind them
    - Don't let braking dust stay on the shiney parts of the wheels
    - Wash or have the truck washed every 2 weeks but only at this one place
    - Have the oil changed every 5K miles but only by this one guy at the dealer
    - Have the truck detailed every other oil change but only at the same place we get the car washed
    - Listen carefully everytime I start the car and when I pull into the driveway and before I turn it off for strange sounds and if I hear anything I take it to the dealer but only one guy can work on it

My list was meant to be funny and it was not meant to complain. It's all part of being married to a Marine :). I love the way my husband takes care of me and our things. Plus, as long as I follow the rules I can get my nails done every two weeks :).

  :annoyed: :smack: :argue: :boink:  :duel: :censored: :infantry:  Not true!!!! Some of us try to take care of our vehicles!!! My son now makes me walk, just like I've made him walk most of his life, since he got a new car.

    Yup

    Exactly!!!

 good you weren't hurt and had a witness.

Two of the worst dings happened at work. Didn't get my usual end spot, so I parked next to one of the guys. Figured (wrong) that he took care of his vehicle, nice scratch down to the primer. Didn't see it happen, so couldn't call him on it. After the fact, looked at the edge of his door and it was chipped badly. Never parked near him again.

The only time where I saw it happen to me it was done by an obese woman. Parked right next to me unnecessarily. As she struggled to get out of her giant piece of crap car the door slammed open into my door. Then she proceeded to put all of her mass on her door to help her stand while pushing and grinding it into mine. And if that wasn't enough, once she was standing, she needed to turn and do something. Her enormous ass hammered the doors together and ground them again. I swore at her all the way across the parking lot. When I got there I said some very unhappy and colorful things and asked how she intended to pay for the damage. She knew I couldn't touch her so pretty much just looked at me like I was speaking Mandarin and slowly waddled away. I wasn't near as zen as the OP.

I try parking away but some dummy always decides to park right next to me (and close) even when open spaces in between.

No respect for property. I always make sure not to open the door onto someone's car. I make sure my kids don't either.

I bought a new mustang years ago, on the way home from the lot, I went to the grocery store. I parked further away, no cars around. Came out after shopping to find a fat lady parked next to me with her rear door open against the side of mt new car, with her fat ass pressing it firmly while she was digging around in her back seat. To make things worse, while she was digging around, the car was moving up and down, with her door now knifing my paint and creasing the contact area. I asked her if she was paying attention to what she was doing, and that I just bought the car next she was... fu*king it up. Her only reply, in a smug manner, was that it's just a car. Grow up.

After putting my groceries In my car, and after she went in the store, I got the tire iron out and made hers just a car. On all sides including the front and rear. Hope she liked it.

...and I caught my neighbor keying the side of my gmc dually years later in the common parking garage. She did it because she hated parking next to me. The truck did have big rear flared fenders, but not so big as to get upset over how big the truck was, or so I thought. Never the less, I caught her ass, and when she saw me after she did it, she like the other bag, huffed off with a smug smile on her face. Needless to say, I paid back in kind. Eye for an eye I thought. She moved the next day.

I had some dumbass in a beater car park next to me the first day I got my truck. I parked out in BFE at the grocery store, and when I come outside, there is a pos car parked next to me of course. There wasn't anyone within 5 spots of me at least on either side and they chose to park next to me. I've also gotten identical door dings on the rear driver side door on my previous two trucks like it's a curse or something. Living in a college town doesn't really help since all the college girls pay zero attention and could give two craps how close they park to someone else. Like the above post ^ nothing irritates me more than someone saying it's only a truck. Also, it's the reason I have the trailer hitch on until I get a rear bumper so no one can tap me on the backside.

Fuking with his family. You might have to roll around in the dirt for doing something to my truck if it was malicious. My parents, wife, or especially daughter...might not get off so easy.

Yeah, many times, it's just a shear lack of giving a shit about someone else's property. Some times it's just complete cluelessness.

Years ago (different vehicle), on a snowboarding trip, we pull into the parking lot of the mountain, my wife's friend pulls up right beside us, we both shut off our cars, and my wife's friend (always reminded me of Edith Bunker (lovable, but a complete dingbat)) just flings her car door open, puts a nice crease in the door, and removes some paint. Where she was a friend, I didn't lose my shit half as much as I would have with someone else, but still gave her a good amount of shit over it. She was incredulous. She had absolutely no idea why I would be upset about something like that. She had no idea that she even did anything wrong.
