    Hey, Folks.

There have been a couple threads about this posted with no resolution:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/can-someone-identify-this-rubber-gasket.566680/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mystery-part-id.578474/

I found that part on the floor of my Taco also. Anybody got a clue?

I looked around and didn't see anything obvious. The part seems to be a loose fit as there are not marks on it. Pinches or scrapes.

    Thanks!

BTW, I thought there was another thread posted where someone found a part that was rattingly around behind the steering shaft guard? Nothing under there seemed out of place or a likely fit for this rubber sleeve.

By the rough edge I’d say it’s some sort of protective cover or installation guide that got left during assembly.

That is a possibility. I'll keep looking for something that looks like a fit for it.

I thought this was part of the brake spring?

No worries. Just looking for a target.

It is probably nothing important, more of a curiosity.

Well, now you made me concerned that I don't have one. So I went out to check and it turns out I do have one! I even have a picture of where it goes. @Skydvrr was right - it's inside the brake spring. On mine, the split is facing the firewall. Must be a damper or anti rattle thingy.

    Nice!

    Thanks, guys!

Gonna either reinsert that or just not use the brakes? :drevil:

I will use a bit of grease to help it stay.

I actually saw that linear spring on the brake when looking around. The only thought that came into my head was: why couldn't I have that on the clutch side.

    Thanks again folks.

It was a very loose fit. Nothing personal there. :D

Gave me an opportunity to add some lube on the clutch.

It seems like sort of an afterthought type of part rather than something built for the application. It's just the brakes though :notsure:

    Exactly. Who knows.

It was fun finding out though. Trivial stuff like this is fun.
