Unfortunately my 2008 prerunner was rolled and totaled this past weekend. Luckily I walked away and crazy enough drove the truck home. The body is totaled but the drivetrain is still functioning like it was before. There were no lights on the dash and the motor purred like a kitten for having 337,xxx miles on it. Now I do have an 87 2wd Toyota pickup I was going to piddle with and sounds like a good idea to slap the 4.0/6speed in it but I’m also entertaining the idea of parting out the drive train and would like some advice.

Pulling parts out of a vehicle is much easier than making them fit into a vehicle.
Especially a vehicle they don’t belong in.

    I say, part it out.

IMHO the market for a 337k+ engine is really small. REALLY small.

Either keep it to play with if that's what you want to do, or send the whole heap to the recycler.

    Sorry about your 'event'.

I've had a Ford 289 that's been sitting a prime corner of my garage for 20 years. I keep thinking I'm going to do something with it.

It used to have a Subaru EJ205 sitting next to it, but I came to my senses and took that to the junkyard during my last cleanup.

One entire truck load of my hoarded stuff I was saving for "someday" brought me $35 in cash. But then I spent $10 at the car wash trying to get the oil and coolant that had run out of the boxer out of the bed....plus maybe $10 in gas....so I netted more like $15.

If you can sell any of it for anything more than 4 cents a pound, you'll do better than I did. Part it out would be my vote.
