Hello all I'm new to this forum and to Toyota's. Picked up a 1996 Tacoma with some issues CV shafts were cut off?? Pulled the shaft out of diff ( WOW was it a Job) come to find out the diff was full of water. The bearing are gone in it. so my question is would it be cheaper to rebuild it or replace with a used one?? I'm In Kansas if some one has one for sale.
    Thanks
    Rex
P.S looking for driver side door handle and maybe back glass also

You could always price out the parts ( bearings, seals, shafts etc.) that will need to be replaced, call around for a price on labor to replace parts. Get a total.
Call around to auto salvage places on a complete unit price.......compare totals. Make decision.
Personally I would rebuild the one I have sense I have all the tools to do it. Used Toyota parts are pricey.

Hmmm. If youre going to rebuild your unit. It might be worth while to take all your rusted pieces to a machine shop or someone with a blast cabinet and let them clean everything.

I constantly get heads, blocks, and internals of an engine that have been sitting out in the rain in junkyards, farms, or someones back yard. I just throw everything in our blast cabinet and clean anything thats rusty. Done straight 6 jeep heads, chevy 454 heads, tractor crank shafts (heavy AF...), piston and rods, whatever i can fit in the cabinet. Blocks are the only thing i have to do outside with a wire wheel on a die grinder. But I still restore everything that comes in, regardless of how mich rust it has..
