Parts upgrade needed to accommodate Bilsteins?

Got quoted for Bilstein 5100’s today. Couple questions, is there anything i should know before giving the green light on the install. Is this a reliable leveling kit? Will I need to upgrade any parts to accommodate these? I am novice to the truck world still so just want to be sure to cover my bases

 

Do you just want a small lift in front?

Most opt to do a block or add a leaf in the rear to bring it up as well.

Prices look good.

 

Doesn’t look bad. If you are comfortable with turning a wrench you could save at least $50 by doing the rear in about 20 min.

 

I completely new to all this but i upgraded my wheels to trd 17’s with 265 70 17s and I just want to level out the front. I assume this is what this setup will do? Pretty much the same as the OEM lift correct?

 

Toyota lift kit has 1" block in rear, the 5100's are designed for 1" rear lift.

 

This. You will not get any lift in the rear with the shocks alone.

 

Can you explain what the difference is? Haha I am so new to this I just want to make sure it’s done right and reliable. I was under the impression the Bilstein 5100’s are basically the same thing as the trd lift. I just want to level out the front to be more even with the back and have a smooth ride, nothing crazy

 

So basically the toyota lift gives you a lift in the rear and the front but the Bilsteins just a 1” lift in the front correct?

 

So the TRD lift is a 2" front 1" rear. The block raises the rear up for the 1"

A 5100 level is about 1.25" front, 0 rear. No rear lift.

You can emulate the TRD lift with 5100s by simple adjustments and 1" block.

The 5100 level will ride much better, but won't appear as big or as lifted.

 

I’m not familiar with the Toyota lift, but the main ways of getting lift in the back are to add a block (Toyota lift, like adding stilts to rear leaf pack), add a leaf to the OEM leaf pack (pack becomes thicker/more rigid, less sag), replace leafs all together (stiffer packs, smoother with more arch, etc….) if you want it level the new shocks in the rear won’t add lift, they will just perform better than OEM.

 

Thanks fellas sorry for the noob comments. I am going to go with just the Bilsteins. I don’t want anything too crazy I think it will look really nice with just the level. Just bring the nose up a bit I think that will look super clean. I appreciate the help

As in like raise front Bilsteins and add a bloc you’re saying?

 

No problem. At least it’s not asking max tire size without rubbing. (The answer is 40s all day)

 

The 5100s in front will allow you to level out now and if you ever want to lift it more they should have more adjustment to get the front higher.

 

Front 5100's for 3rd gens have 5 notches.
1st notch is 0" lift
2nd is .65"
3rd is 1.1"
4th is 1.55"
5th is 2.0"

These numbers are for a stock truck. If you add weight (bumpers, wench, etc) lift will be less.

For the record the TRD lift only has the 3rd, 4th and 5th notches and therefor can only do a 1.1", 1.55" and 2" front lift.

 

What will the shop set it to when installed? I just want the 1.25 level in the front as @Bishop84 stated^ do they just set it to zero?
