I have a 2006 Tacoma Sport DC Long bed and my truck doesn't have that switch for the passenger air bag underneath the third air conditioner vents from the left. I have noticed that all the pictures posted on TW of that particular interior angle do have it. What does this mean for my passenger's air bag? Is it on or off??

Double cabs don't have the switch as there are two full seats. The access cabs and single cabs have them.

^ So does that mean the airbag is ON?

Also, there is a wire behind the cover under the vent, I'm assuming it connects to that switch. Maybe I can get another cover with the switch in place and configure the settings?

In the AC and regular cabs you have the shut off switch because you can sit a child in the front seat. If they are, you shut it "off". I guess the thinking is in a DC is that you place you child in the back.

it's only on when weight is on the seat. to test, turn the truck on, buckle the seatbelt and then push down on the seat relatively hard

It is on when some one is sitting in the seat. There is a sensor in the seat. I two have a 2006 DC.

some of this, a little of that

I am pretty sure it will work doing the above but I don't think you even need to buckle the seatbelt.

the airbag is judged by how much weight is in the seat my dog 100lbs i think will turn the airbag on but somebody under that weight it will be shut off

You're all correct if you're referring to the 05-09 models. I guess they began eliminating the passenger airbag cutoff switch from the regular cabs with the 2010 model. So only the Access Cabs have the shutoff. The standard cab and DC do not have the shutoff. Someone with a 2010 regular cab just posted a few days ago about why he didn't have the switch. And I confirmed it in looking at Toyota's website (of course, it shows the 2011 but still no cutoff switch for any config other than the AC).

Very old post, but new question... Anyone with a regular cab without the shut off switch figure out a work around? Have a newborn on the way and would rather not have to try to sell/trade in the truck.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I saw where the plug is. I know they have sensors for weight but I don't trust them. I know I have had less than 30 lbs in that seat and the airbag light was on. Had a case of "soda" in it and the light was on...
