I just picked up a new (to me) 2009, and it's pretty spotless cosmetically, but on the interior there is one major flaw. My guess is the previous owners girlfriend/wife really loved to put their feet up on the dash (not sure what else could give wear in those spots?) and consequently, it appears to have rubbed the black right out of two areas. I found the replacement part, but at $400 to my door, I'd like to try something cheaper first because it is purely cosmetic.

I was thinking about just cleaning it, taping everything off really, really well and painting it with some vinyl paint. I have come to ask: should I or should I not do that, and why?

    Any help is appreciated!
