I appreciate it, but really I did this because I needed it, and it didn’t cost me anything extra to post it up here, because I know others need it as well.

Glad we are hearing about more successful installs!

Has anyone added more than just 1 extra handle? Every day I find myself wishing the rear doors would unlock when grabbing the handles.

It's been mentioned, but running the wire may be more of a hassle than it's worth. Secondly, because the passenger handle is tapping into the driver's side to "fake" it into think you're actually touching the drivers side (provided you change your settings so that "driver side" unlocks all doors), no one here is sure yet if there is loading issues or degradation with extra wire runs, and all 4 being tapped into just one handle.

As I see it, it's just a LF (Low Frequency) signal that is sent to the key fob in your pocket that in turn activates the fob to send a RF (Radio Frequency) to the trucks receiver. I don't see why it wouldn't work but I'm not a radio wave specialist so I don't know if the signal needs to be amplified if tapping 4 into 1 or not. With this setup, all handles are "live" looking for your fob when any ONE is touched, instead of a specific one only being "live" as it would have been if each handle had it's own input on the ECU from the manufacturer, hence it would know if it's rear or driver position.

From inside the doors, the rear handles look different to me.

Well they aren’t smart capable, they would be replaced with ones like the front drivers side...the rears are the same part number as a non-smart front passenger...which means the front passenger would also look like that to you before it is swapped.

Maybe I'll just man up and order 3 of them to try it out.

@jayrobot great explanation, I do think even though the signal may need to be amplified in order to serve 4 handles instead of one, adding 3 handles may be basically quadrupling the antenna, so amplification may not be needed. Each handle may have less range, but adding more handles may increase that range?

@treimche let us know for sure if you do try it out. I know I personally have no use for backseat handles for an extra $200 each, so I won’t be trying it myself.

I constantly find myself going to the back doors to put stuff in the back seat, so it would sure be convenient. Just not sure yet if its going to be worth the extra ~$600 or not.

You know I think you’re right. Your key fob might be in your front right pocket and if that pocket lines up with rear driver while left hand is touching driver handle, there will be a big field that pretty much covers the whole left side of the vehicle. More leeway but less transmission distance perhaps...I don’t see why it wouldnt work...but I can’t say for sure...

    EDIT: Deleted some wrong stuff.

The key antennae are at the centerline of the cab; one just forward of the Qi cubby above the airbag control box and one under the armrest storage on top of the inverter (if equipped ;)).

    The handles are also antennas.
You can test this by putting your key on the passenger handle (if you haven’t done this mod) and attempting to open your driver’s handle (it won’t work).
The handles are antennas that you need to be within 2.3 feet of, and also touch sensors you need to touch.
The sensors inside the vehicle are used to start the vehicle, and one used for the keyless entry remote buttons.

Ha, perhaps I should have RTFM.

I am however dubious of the range lines. I have unplugged one of the interior sensors and it still detects the key; albeit, at reduced distances. I don't think I tried to lock/unlock at the door.

As many have said this is great!!! Thank you OP! When you have a car that has all four smart doors (and have young kids) you really get used to it. That fob never comes out of my purse. Wish we had that on our truck. @Victory, do the handles need to be installed before they function? Or just wired? Because if it’s just wired then we could tap into the ECU when installing the pass side and lay the other two sets of wire out in the truck where “they would go” before doing all the rear door disassembly and fishing (which seems to be the hardest part). If they don’t work maybe the handles can be returned or resold?

Great idea for anyone who wants to try. These shouldn’t need to be fully installed, just wired, so run a length of wire and give them a try before routing all that wire through doors and behind panels.
