To run the rear handles can you tap the front wires, rather than running it all the way to the control module?

Worth a try since it would be the easiest thing to try first. However, with longer wire runs you get resistivity of the conductors, impedance, and signal degradation, especially with two pairs of wire taps acting as resistive points before rears even register to the ECU.

It would be somewhat helpful to run to the front kickpanels and tap there, however you don’t want to run back into the front doors if that’s what you mean, just getting into that boot is a lot harder than running to the very easy to access ecu.

I understand what you’re saying. I will soon tackle this mod as my orders has been shipped from Conicelli Toyota.

This is awesome. My Subaru had the smart key work on both doors, and I definitely miss that feature.

Mail day! Received my handle, wires, and connector today from camelback toyota. It took a week or two to get here with the connector on back order, but well worth the wait. I know this has been said over and over, but thank you @Victory ! My Lexus credit card key will no longer require a jog to the driver's side to open any door on this truck.

And here we go! Two smarts, two rear regulars. I have a limited with chrome and this is the last bit of dechroming I had left!31B6CC3F-6857-4B20-9C5E-0C740370EC0C.jpg

You could probably make back some of your money. Some people still like the chrome. I did when I first bought the truck, now I like it better blacked out...

Yes and no. It’s not solid chrome as you know so it would have to be someone with a cement...that group is very limited, no pun intended but worth the shot, so I just list it in the for sale forum? Is this what you did? The non smarts retail for $40, not sure about the chrome ones, smart for about $140, again not sure about retail in chrome, $12-$17 for the caps, but I don’t really care if I can shake them for a few bucks...how much you fetch and for what/how many? Lots of interest/snagged up right away or did it take some time for the right buyer’s attention?

Nah, I didn’t sell my handle, I just figure I would keep it as a spare for the 2 rears. If I sell it, one of those rear handles are bound to get damaged some how, now that I kept it, I will never need it! I just thought maybe someone may want the chrome handles. Just post them in the 3rd gen for sale forum. Won’t hurt to try, especially since you will probably won’t go back to chrome.

Won’t hurt to try at all because all those parts you see in that pic nearly cost me close to $500! Now that hurts...especially if it’s included next year.

I went with 20 gauge wire I found on Amazon and used 20-22 gauge posi-tap connectors from amazon as well. The wire was labeled 22, but the box said 20. I got it because it was fused like speaker wire.

For those who have done it, in your opinion was it easier to fish two individual wires through versus a two-wire bundled in its own insulation like this for example? (Nevermind the solid core type, I know you need stranded type to use the posi taps)B7F8F3CF-530D-4115-BD07-982D4E6B1FF9.jpg

For me personally the 2 wires fused together was pretty easy. If you pop the boot out on both ends like the OP suggest it makes it easier to fish something through to pull the wires back. I ran the wires from in the cab to the door. There is a small opening in the boot on the inside of the cab that made it really easy to insert the wires. I wish I would have taken a picture to better explain that, but there is a pre-existing hole to run the wires in the boot from the cab.
