Passenger Door Smart Key System

well, im taking the plunge and just ordered the parts from my local dealer. Thx for the great write up and pics, should be an easy mod for me. you guys are awesome.

 

I am very curious about this as well. I'd love to have smart handles on all four doors.

 

Well, i ordered my parts (just 1 handle for the pass front door) last night online through my local dealer and i added in the 18 pro grill and garnish. I did not give my vin # on my order. Today i get an email from jon at the parts counter confirming my parts are in the local wherehouse and i can pick them up after 9am tomorrow. Not even a long wait

 

Any chance you can make a video of the install, and post it? I really want to do this too, but just want to see it done once on video before I try.

 

It's a sting... they want you to come in person, so they can apprehend you for trying to "illegally" obtain Pro parts.

 

Ill have to keep an eye out for the undercover agents

 

If you dont hear from me again, im probrably in japan rotting in jail for attempted pro purchase. My luck a felony.

 

Hi Jayscull, im not all that good with video but i can take step by step picks. Its gonna be a pretty straight forward mod thats not that difficult. Im gonna get it done over the weekend so ill let you know how it goes.

Thank you so much for the awesome writeup. Got mine done today and is amazing. Should have been like this from the get go. Took me a little longer because I installed a remote starter while I had the dash panel off. Also dropped one of those stupid clips from the sail piece on the door down inside the door. My husband refused to give up and let it go. He managed to recover it after 30 minutes of searching and fishing.

 

Yup those white clips are a pain to fish out. My solution was to take a coat hanger and place tape at the end of it so that the clip can stick to the metal end.

 

The inside of the door is easily accessed by just unbolting the speaker (once door panel is removed). I had no issues reaching through most of the door length through either the speaker void or behind the blue plastic. The blue plastic is just a bit extra effort to remove.

The problem is that the white clips fall into a smaller crevice and not into the bottom of the door, which is easily accessible like you described. The small crevice is completely blocked off except where the side mirror is attached.

 

Would anyone happen to know part numbers for the pins to order from somewhere like DigiKey? I don't feel like spending $13 per pin/wire, since I plan on adding 3 of these door handles. I have tons of scrap wire too, so that's not an issue.'

If there's no way to figure this out, maybe I'll order the plastic connector then dig around and see if I can find some other pins that will fit the connector properly.

Yes they are. I read that too.

 

If I don’t have a stock headunit anymore to access those door unlock options, is this still possible to do? Also if my pop n lock is wired up to the passenger door lock/unlock, will the pop n lock unlock when passenger door handle is unlocked?

Hopefully those questions make sense... haha

 

You could use Techstream to set those options for all doors unlocking.
