Finally got it installed! It honestly isn't that hard for those of you who are still on the fence about this. After breaking down the steps it's really simple. Like others have mention, getting the wire through the rubber boot was probably the hardest. I used about 6.5 ft of wire and that left me no spare room.

I took some additional photos, just for some reference. Now I just have to wait for my remote start via mobile app to get here and the truck will be luxurious complete.

Other members have already answered. But yes that is the smart start module. Right now, I only have the factory remote so when I press the lock function 3x it starts the car. The only way for me to get in, is to go to the driver side with the smart entry to unlock all the doors. It became a real PITA when I'm carrying my daughter in her car carrier. I gotta walk all the way around to the driver side just to unlock the doors then walk all the passenger rear door.

But if you need the remote start, Jimmy @N2DesignsInc is the go to guy on this forum. He is listed as one of our vendors.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
    Thanks @Slim_shadowz

That's a Remote Start module, the smart app based control module is much slimmer and would connect to the back of it. More specifically, that's a Directed DB3. They're cheap, but marked up heavily and sold for $$$ to unsuspecting customers. I have access to those, but I chose to NEVER sell them because I want my customers to have the best, far more superior product than this unit, for less than what my competitors sell this DEI Directed unit. The cons about this aside from not being able to find readily available plug n play harnesses for these units (say you wanted to take it and put it on your next vehicle - you can't because you either tapped/spliced wires, that you'll have to undo, or your retailer made the in-house harness and they won't sell you JUST a harness so you'd have to start from scratch all over again with a whole new kit $$$, not making it universal like mine where you just need the new harness for the new vehicle, and a re-flash that you can even do yourself).

Another con about these units is the fact that when your vehicle battery dies, for an extended time, this unit needs to be re-programmed as you did from day one out of the box. My units retain your programming for quite while, certainly by the time you get around to replacing the battery or getting a jump start. So if you sell your rig with the remote start, sucks for the new person when the battery dies (and it will). They will have NO idea where to start, what they have, and why it doesn't work anymore...hopefully your address and phone number has changed since then :D

Retailers sell you these because the margin on them is phenomenal and you wouldn't know the difference, or the fact that they're robbing you of hard earned cash. I only sell what I would use, even though my cost on my devices are more than the DB3, I still sell them for less than the competition does on those Directed DB3 units!

However, if you already have one, my smart phone modules will plug right up to it because it the same device we all sell, all retailers that have the smart phone add on options for sale for 3x lock style remote starts will plug right in!

Update: Got this to work finally. I think I had the orientation of the connector pins wrong in the connector housing. It works great! This mod has been long overdue. Thanks to @Victory for laying all the groundwork so we can do this mod.

Finally pulled the trigger on this one. Parts should be at my house before I get back from my work trip.

Much excitement to complete this mod now! :p

Has anyone figured out a way to install the handle, but to leave the door unlocking function as to where you dont have to lock and unlock all 4 doors at the same time by the head unit settings? I would like to do this mod, but only like to unlock and lock my drivers door each time, not all 4. Thanks.

You are duplicating the receiving antenna to the system, the Driver's door has it's own relay to unlock, the rest of the doors have another. The only way to (for now) unlock the passenger's door is to tell/set the system to unlock all doors.:notsure:
