Does anyone know if the VW clips for the mats work with the Toyota fasteners in the floor? The mat clips broke but the floor retainers are fine.

You can get aftermarket clips that are similar to the factory ones on the driver's side through Amazon. They're easy to install as well...

    Here’s what I did.
I had some carpet tape and it worked great

do the claws dig IN to the carpet? or just the surface. I've read some installiation tips and they say to make sure there are no wires or ductwork under the mat. It doesn't seem like there is, so I think I'm good to just plug it in and smash down but just curious. thanks

So I’m wondering how we could find the part number to the anchor on the passenger side floor for the 18s since they are both mats anchored? To me that would work. Heck, I’m willing to buy different mats since the OWM ones are not that great.

I was gonna purchase these too. But I would need the 18’s floor mats.

Yes, I just installed the VW carpet screw clips today in the passenger side of my 2017 Tacoma and they fit perfectly with the 2018 Tacoma OEM All-Weather Floor Liners.

Ladder rack w/offroad lights and yakima kayak saddles installed, Mud flaps.
I would guess this has been enough of a problem that now the new tacomas have locks on the passanger side floor mats. Was at dealership here in georgia getting 20k service done and looked at a 2018 tacoma and it had the all weather mata with locks on both front mats. I think toyota needs to come up with a fix for is. It would be the right thing to do. An tech service bulliten that replaces the mat and installs the locks into the carpet. Lets all take our warranty vehicles in and complain about the passanger mat problem. Maybe eventually they will offer us a remedy.

It’s not just Toyota. My Yukon XL, Mazda CX-5, Cherokee Trailhawk, and VW GTI all do the same thing. It’s irritating for sure but fixable for a few bucks. Should have used multi quote. :)

I'm having issues instilling the screws into the carpet. How you guys do it without bending the tips of the plastic screws?

Use a pointy tool (like an ice pick) to pierce the carpet before inserting the screw. Use just enough pressure with the ice pick to get through the carpet backing, you don't need to pierce all the way to the floorboard. Then apply firm pressure to the screw as you turn it in.

Oh man I'm so glad I found this thread. Since day 1 this was the biggest annoyance about my truck! Finally installed the fix yesterday. Seems to hold up against my stress tests. We'll see over time.

Also I bought the 10 pack off Amazon so if anyone needs a set of these, hit me up! IMG_1200.jpg

I bought a multi pack as well and have extras. If you need a couple let me know. I’ll be happy to send them at no charge to help fellow Tacoma World members.
