I simply spread a layer of Gorilla super glue on the floor mat’s back side, not just a drop or two, opposite the tacoma lettering and let it thoroughly dry till next day and problem solved.
No drilling on mat or floorboard, that’s a deal breaker for me.

A month later it hasn’t moved.
In some cases you may have to remove the old adhesive from the felt pro, but as long as it gets cemented on there it ought to work.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I just ordered mine. I'm tired of my mat moving as we'll. This should have been done by Toyota. Thanks for finding a professional looking fix.

I got to install my floor mat locks today. After carefully examining them I decided I need to make a rubber spacer to place in between to make a tight fit. I cut out a round donut from an old inner tube. This helps fill in the gap when the 2 plastic pieces are snap together thru the rubber floor mat. I cut 2 oval holes in the corners nearest the seat. To assemble I put the rubber spacer on the top side plastic piece and installed on top of the mat. The other plastic piece goes under the mat. I put a piece of wood under the mat lock and then I hit it on the top side with a rubber hammer to join the 2 plastic pieces together. After the plastic grommets were installed in the rubber floor mat I centered the floor mat on the passenger side floor. Then using an awl I poked a hole in the center of each mat lock into the carpet to perfectly align the carpet screw. Then just lift floor mat and screw the carpet screw locks in. Replace floor mat and lock mat down by turning the lock. All done. Looks great. Works perfectly. This is what Toyota should had done in the factory for us. I highly recommend doing this mod. Works on the factory rubber or carpet mats. Thanks again for bringing these carpet locks to our attention!

Good stuff. Getting extra set for the rear mat since it does the same crap in the corners...

I ended up doing this as well, I punched out rubber shims to place on the bottom. Without the rubber washer the locks were sloppy since they were made for carpet mats not the thin rubber mats. I placed my locks more similar to the the factory location of the driver mat to make it easier when I vacuum (can lift up the edges of the mat).

    Thanks for the idea @Tacopromatt

I noticed the passenger mat issu the first day. I wonder why thy didn't put the mat locks on the pssenger side as well. I like the above mod. Might have to do that one.

Finally got around to install... Simple but effective.
Hardest part was cutting out the holes in the rubber floor mat, so the peices could connect. I used a exacto knife, after I had the initial indention. Put some tight rubber gaskets under top peice to help with the extra space, as others have suggested.
Also, use a drill & small bit (I used a 3/32) to drill through the carpet, so the screw fasteners will grab and install easier.

Put mine out on the corners to ensure no movement.

I cant' believe that toyota had clips for 2nd gen passenger seats, but took them out on the 3rd gen! What did they save, $2? Seriously? UGH i have to order these clips, thanks for posting the fix.
