Still no luck with seat. Last visit to dealer and they said: normal. No way is this normal.

I'm going to bring this video in to show them. The last 30 seconds show the problem pretty well.

I want to eventually put leather seats in and I want this fixed before I go that route.

    HELP!

Haha! Definitely not "normal". Hopefully that video will settle it.

My 12 does that too, but only on very rough, bumpy sections of road.

Get a technician to sit in the back and take him for a ride. It seems to have something to do with the fold-flat mechanism.

Here's the best part: They told me they took it for a test ride and could hear no noise!!!

Either they tech was deaf or he was testing out the radio also during the ride.

Mine does the same damn thing, I'm more concerned if I get in to an accident and who ever is sitting there gets hurt. My 06 did not do this so it's not normal.

The roads around here are garbage.. and I don't have anything like that. Keep the pressure on to get that fixed up.

Okay, how about you going to the dealer and saying you don't care whether Toyota has an official fix or not, or whether other Tacomas have the issue or not. There is a problem with my truck (passenger seat rattles) and the truck is under warranty - fix it as was promised in that warranty.

    Update:

I showed my video to the service writer today. He talked to his boss and came out with a USB drive, then asked me to put a copy of the video on the USB. I did that in the service waiting area (thank you Photobucket). They said that they will be contacting Toyota to "open a case" and see what happens.

FWIW, when I fist showed him the video, he said that I must have been driving on a very rough road. I told him it was a paved street and was just hitting small potholes and manhole covers. I also said that either way, the noise from the seat was not normal and making my Tacoma uncomfortable to drive. "I don't want to deal with this anymore." got his attention.

I will update when I hear back from the dealer.

Can you make the rattle by shaking the seat manually? Are the bolts on the rail/floor or seat upper/seat lower tight? Maybe some kind of nylon bushing is missing somewhere?

Another question- do you have the fold-flat seat? I just went to check mine, and I can definitely make it rattle by shaking the upper seat, regardless of it's position, but when I release the fold flat latch and pivot the upper seat slightly forward (so it is between the detents), I can't get it to rattle.

Thanks for making me aware of something else my OCD can't handle

Bumping the seat laterally duplicates the noise.

No fold-flat seat in 2012 DC models.

Update: Service department insisted on another "test drive" this morning. (Lucky for me I am a teacher in a vocational school and am not working at this time) Service shop foreman drove while I sat in the back. After a leisurely 20 mph drive on relatively smooth roads, he stated that the noise was normal and probably caused by the active head restraint mechanism in the seat.

    WRONG ANSWER.

I mentioned that I wanted this corrected before having leather installed and he said that Toyota does not recommend this for warranty and liability reasons.

    STRIKE TWO.

He did say that he would open a case file with "Toyota in California" (I am in Massachusetts) and test drive a similar truck to see if it made the same noise. He also "suspected" that it would and that Toyota would back his theory that the noise is normal.

    NOT HAPPY.

I am going to give it a few days and if I do not hear from them with a positive outcome I need to take this to the next step. What that step is I do not know.

My passenger seat shakes and rattles as well, even on the highway, so bad sometimes I wedge a coat between the side of the and the pillar. Getting the runaround at the dealership as well... (2011 double cab long bed)

My passenger seat wobbles like crazy when no one is in it, but it does not make a noise when doing so.

My 2012 DC SR5 has the fold-flat seat. TRD's delete that feature I believe. Anyways, if you don't have that feature, then my speculation is moot.

OK I got a call late this afternoon from my dealer service dept. They said that they showed my video to Toyota and took a new truck for a test drive and found that my seat is perfectly normal according to their assessment and that of Toyota.

I am calling bullshit. I don't think they contacted Toyota about anything. Anyone who sees the video can clearly se and hear that there is a problem with the seat.

I don't know what to do next.

    Any ideas?

My brand new 2012 does this. I took it in, they took the seat apart, nothing found and even balanced my tires to see if that was it...nothing helped. They deemed it normal. I have wet okoles and it still does it like crazy.
