Long time lurker and new taco owner here. I just purchased a new 2018 DCLB Premium MGM OR in the middle of July and have been loving the truck however it developed it's first quirk. Last week I started hearing a rattle sound whenever I go over bumps which I have narrowed down to be the passenger seat moving and if I press on the seat the noise goes away. I know that there have been issues with the passenger A pillar rattling, which I think I have as well, and the headrest rattling, which I have ruled out by removing the headrest, but I have not seen any passenger seats rattling.

I have an appointment to have the dealer fix but in the meantime I was curious if anyone else on here had the passenger seat making noise and what the fix turned out to be.

I have a 2017 and mine does the same thing. Interested to see what they do about it.

So I think I found the noise. It's definitely the leather (vinyl) rubbing against the center console. I tested this by putting a rag in between the console and seat and it's perfectly quiet now.

I will likely cancel my appt since I don't think there is anything they could do.

So I just got back from the dealer. They adjusted the passenger seat so it doesn't rub. It's nice and quiet now.

My passenger seat rattles when empty & going over bumps.. It is secure to the base, it's the seatback that rattles. You can shake the seatback and make the noise.

Having the same issue, seems to be getting progressively worse super annoying. And it also seems like my driver seat is not square. It is hard to adjust the seat, one side will latch and I have to shake my ass back and forth before the other side will latch.

Play with the backrest angle on the passenger seat.

I found in my experience with this exact flaw on my 2G if you got the angle just right it would mitigate a ton of the rattle. It wouldn't 100% solve it, but it would get it a lot closer.

I have a 2018 dc and it also does this. There is play in the seat track closest to the passenger door. I slide my seat forward midway and it’s not as bad. Plan to have it looked at on the 1st maintenance.

Same problem here. Problem disappears if seat is occupied or if I press against the seat back with my right hand or forearm. Will experiment with different locations on the tracks and different seat-back angles. Annoying, but not worth a special trip to the dealer. My 25K ToyotaCare visit upcoming this fall and will ask the dealer to address it then.

with leather the side of the seat rubs against the center console and makes a constant noise. dealership suggested moving the seat all the way back. i have kids that sit in the back and that was not an option for me.

Rattle disappeared with seat fully rearwards in the tracks and seat back reclined. When I brought the seat back up halfway to upright, rattle resumed but not as bad as when fully upright.

Well the rattle is still there. Took it into the dealership again and they are going to order a new seat. I'm not very confident this will fix it though since the service manager and I looked at another Tacoma and it's seat is as loose as mine.

Theres play in the ratchet gear catch or whatever it's called. There's a gap and everytime I hit the gas or brakes my seatbacks move a good 1/8". It's not the seat bottom on the rails. It's where the back attaches to the mechanism. It's annoying af. Doesn't matter what position it's in it moves. You can grab the front seat headrest from the back with the rear door open and you can feel and hear it. 4 other tacos I looked at have play in the seats. Gonna pull the leather back tomorrow and see Wtf is doing it. Feels like when you sit in one of those chairs where the back is springy and you don't realize it until you sit down. The truck has done it since I bought it, have 700 miles now

Same problem with mine. 18 DC no leather. Definitely the seat back slapping. Less than 5000 miles, just started in the last couple of weeks, though. I live on a super bumpy road, too.

How did u test this? I swear mine is from the seat rails but I have not find a good way to prove where it's coming from.

Yep same here. Stuck a towel between the seat back and the center compartment/armrest to shut the damn thing up. FWIW I did just put KO2s on the 4R pro wheels, but were force balanced..

@Riotfunk let us know what you find out!

Mine rattles if I don't have it securely latched in position. Sit in it and try to slide it back and forth and see if it latches into place.
