Sounds like you need auto headlights.

Great info thanks for the post! I’ll be heading to the dealer to get them to resolve this problem. Sounds like it was a manufacture mess up, leaving excess parts in the truck, but it’s weird that multiple people are having the same problem.

Thanks OP!!! You saved my sanity!!!!!

I changed out my speakers this weekend and took a look at this part while I had the tweeter cover off, sure enough it was the rattle I've been hearing. I took some gorilla tape and placed it under the rounded edges them trimmed up the tape with scissors. It is very snug now and no more rattle!!!!

I just noticed this rattling this morning, and will fix as well. Thank you!

Maybe the Mods can make this a sticky...seems to be a lot of owners with rattle issues.

I took mine out, put a piece of heat shrink around it, and re-installed. No more rattling from what I could tell. It was free to move around before, now it’s snug.

There’s a thread on this, it’s likeky the adhesive on the a pillar padding becoming hard at cold temperatures and it causes an insanely annoying rattle noise, happened to me. The guy in the fix thread took his off and made a permanent solution. I stuffed a small piece of plastic between the a pillar and dash and it went away.

I had that rattle as well, but have the light sensor for auto-headlights. When I was installing my dash cam, I noticed the sensor and wiring were loose. I put a little 2 sided tape under the wiring and rattle is gone.

x2 does it just pull off gently with a bit of force? Clips break easily?

I have auto headlights and the rattle started for me as soon as it got cool outside (close to freezing)

Pull the A-pillar first, then the speaker cover pops out pretty easily. Once the pillar cover is off, use a thin trim tool to pry up the speaker cover edge closest to you. Be gentle. I think 4 clips total. Two at front edge and two in center. There are two guides near windshield that slide free when clips are disengaged. When the cover is off, it’s easy to secure that plastic plug from below with a couple tiny pieces of tape. (non-auto headlight models)

Thanks, good info. Apparently the auto headlight sensor is easy to do the same. I'll get some thin foam tape from work. Need to finally get some trim removal tools as well

This is the only annoying noise my truck makes, besides the general road noise coming from the rear. I think I may lay down some dynmat or something behind the rear seats (AC cab)

No prob. A flat screwdriver will work if you’re careful. Just to get under the front lip to get it started. Good luck. A-pillar first, though.

Once you get it removed, it’s just as easy if not easier to take a piece appropriate size hwat shrink tubing, slip it up from the bottom, and shrink it to form. Once popped back in, no more movement.

Side note, be careful with the speaker cover. Tried to remove mine, broke a large piece of plastic. Decided to just pry the small piece up with a trim removal tool, without removing the speaker cover.

Can you please explain how you popped it off without breaking it? I appreciate the help.

Take the a pillar post off. Remove the 2 bolts holding the grab handle on, then gently pull the a pillar cover off. Now you can remove the speaker grill. Pry with a trim tool or small flat screw driver. If you have the auto headlights put some 2 sided tape under the sensor wire where it goes through the dash. If you just have the plug, dap it with some silicone or tape it to secure it from rattling! Best mod I’ve done,

    Important:
I think that after removing the A-pillar trim, it would be good to then pull out and remove the trim piece surrounding the right side dash vent prior to removing the speaker cover, otherwise you might break a tab/clip on the speaker cover.

Ask me how I know. I broke a tab/clip on the speaker cover.

After shaving off some plastic with a razor blade and knife from the edge of the speaker grill and the
A-pillar where they were touching and buzzing/clicking, I just used an ample amount of silicone caulk to put them back into place securely.

Is there a club, or a ribbon? I joined yesterday while putting in replacement tweeters (Subaru Kickers). I don’t get why that side has the hooktab under the pillar. That’s what caused the side pressure and broke the tab. Drivers side has none of that nonsense and was far better designed.
