Wanting a patina on my hood so I sanded it down. Question, do I need to sand it more and can I achieve a faster than waiting for it to rust ? Thanks.

There are a few threads on this already that would probably answer your question. The TW Search function sucks so the best thing to do is Google the topic than add Tacoma World to the end of your search title.

A solution of hydrogen peroxide, salt, and vinegar will promote rust. Apply with a spray bottle and wait.

For the extra mile, apply the mixture and then steam the surface with a carpet cleaner - the rust will develop pretty much immediately.

Take all the loose rust off with fine (0000) steel wool, and then repeat as desired.

The heaviest rust I've ever caused was done with muriatic acid.

I don't recommend using the stuff, or even being in the same building as it... but holy hell did it chew up the steel and cause it to rust something awful.

Just move to Michigan and drive it one winter. Won't have to do a single thing and it'll rust like you dumped it at the bottom of the ocean.

I think I've lost the plot here- what was the point of intentionally sanding/rusting it if you were just going to paint it again?
