Hey Y’all, new to the thread. Got my Dad’s old work truck (3 yr old son calls it Pawpaws tuck) that he sent to me when I was in tough times last year. 06 Tacoma just under 430k miles and starting to upgrade a few things. This forum has shed a lot of good insight on some repairs I had to do already and figured to share some things as I go. Got some new shoes today for her. Replaced the stock 245/75/r16 wheels and tires with 2023 4Runner wheels and 275/70/r17 BFG all terrain KO2s. Stock suspension so the tires rubbed a little bit on the front mud flaps so I had pulled those. Only slight rub at the right angle and if I hit a good bump now. I will replace the flaps once I put on a 2” level kit soon. Rear suspension has an added leaf spring that my dad put on before the recall. Happy to share the journey with y’all. Looks like it’s been kept in really good shape! Does it have the original engine and transmission?

That she does, still running great. Recently replaced the injectors, O2 sensors, and PCV valve. Was throwing lean codes that took me for a loop. A bad PCV valve I believe was the culprit. Classic $5 part in the end after spending $$ on up and downstream sensors and new injectors. However, she was due for those regardless.

Very nice. Shows what good ownership + Toyota will do. 1/2 million miles.... and going!

Great hearing family looking out for each other.

That’s too bad. On a positive note, those parts may have needed replacing after 430k anyway haha.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
    Thanks PawPaw!

Parts wear out. Labor and new stuff is expensive. You can possibly upgrade/replace a lot of things on that truck and make it run good for cheaper than what youd pay a new car note.

Best of luck. Thank god for family

That’s the plan. I grew up doing oil changes and all basic maintenance on this truck with my dad. I intend to do the same with my son as he gets older. This truck helped keep food on the table, the lights on in the house, and was a decent cleaning table for whatever game or fish we caught that day. Just trying to keep the traditions going with the next generation.

IMG_1284.jpg IMG_1286.jpg 2” level kit installed. Had to trim down the strut studs 1/4” to fit but no complaints.

Have the cat's ever been replaced? Was your dad the original owner?

Yup, Dad was original owner. Cats haven’t been replaced but those are on the docket. The temp difference before and after both primary and secondary catalytic converters indicate they have some clogging. Long term trim values are floating around 8 for both bank 1 and 2. They were around 15-20 until I put a new PCV valve in. Not throwing a code yet but hoping cat cleaner will do the trick or at least get the long term trim values closer to 0 at idle.
