Historically 1000 pounds payload is 1/2 ton, and 1500 pounds a 3/4 ton.

@Turkish your pickup came from same plant as mind about 1000 units prior but my build date is June and not in TSB for transmissions. I hope you're spared on that risk too. Mine has a yellow 2 pounds less warning sticker and probably weighs slightly more for the upgrade package. I've estimated a 1600 pound payload and was impressed from remembering my 1970s and '80s Chevy 20 and F250 pickups.

You don't have to go to a Cat branded or franchised scale. In the USA NIST standards require scales used for commerce be certified accurate in all 50 states.

6835 gvwr / 1215 payload (minus like 25lb for some accessories?) on my placard — the math ain’t mathing… my truck isn’t 5600+ pounds … now maybe it’s what the TIRES can handle that’s driving the payload .. I’ll do the math on that

edit - lol never mind on tires .. they can take a lot

Yeah the placard is for the tires to maintain their speed and load ranges, within a large margin of safety at that. My 2006 Honda accord placard says 850 lbs…

lol .. that makes my trail hunter 1215 look feeble - Sheldon should address that and answer it …. Is the payload the true limit or GVWR?

Short bed. With the exception of the underrated but typical stock tires, the loading numbers are great although the rear axle loading is not balanced likely to keep the tail bounce down. So far impressed with the unloaded handling, braking, head snap and tail bounce on washboards and bush trails. if loaded handling is anywhere close to unloaded handling it will be a solid off-road ride. But expect upgraded tire loading to match the payload will also degrade the ride quite a bit. Having said that the stock tires seem very good in wet/dry/braking/corning are fairly quiet and snow rated so can see why they were picked.

TRDOR DCLB with a bigger touchscreen but no other upgrade packages. I assume the only way to get a true number is to weigh the truck empty but full of gas?

I like that the modification sticker says 1kilo or 1lb. Definitely not mathing.

I put 2 yards of top soil in the bed of my 2012 tundra once (about 4200lbs). Drove a couple miles slowly. No lasting damage but it was definitely sketch and in no way safe. I won't be abusing my taco like that for sure.

My SR5 DCLB sticker shows my GVWR is 6005 lbs. Why is the SR5 GVWR less capable than others I've seen posted? Is there different suspension components, different axle? And, on the Tire and Loading Info sticker, all our trucks seem to show that payload is 1200 lbs. So I'm guessing its not the tires that make the difference.

I tow sometimes, so I try to stay below the 1200lbs of "payload" posted on that sticker since I'm not wanting the legal risk should something bad happen, but if the truck's real payload is the difference between the GVWR and the scale weight of the truck with a full tank of fuel and other fluids needed to run, why isn't that on the sticker instead?

I think it's just too complicated for a sticker. Different trims will weigh slightly different, you have to consider front and rear axel weight separately, total payload vs tongue weight, trailer weight and load distribution are all factors in deciding if what you are doing is safe. I'm guessing they slap 1200 on the sticker as a generic metric and give the GVWR as a do not exceed number, since if you weigh more than that one of those many variables is off.

On the lower GVWR for SR5 I've heard but don't know for sure that TRD has heavier axels?

It’s Not.. Toyota accounts for every penny and every ounce. Lawyers are involved doing their best to cause confusion.

I'd think the moonroof would be less desirable in Canada. More opportunities to use the moonroof in warmer climates. Convertibles probably don't sell as well in Ontario as they do in San Diego.

    TRD OR DCLB. Another 1200lb.

-18lbs for the PIOs on the yellow sticker. Odd to have such precision on the accessories but not in the actual calculated payload.
