Never had it, never used it, completely ignorant of it. Not comfortable with it, but wish I knew more about it.

Since this would be an appropriate thread, and others may benefit as well, could someone post a how-to, and a not-how-to guide in layman terms for my behind-the-times ignorance? Thanks in advance....

Feel free to poke fun of me if ya want, I can take it.....:boink::fenforcer:

Never had a problem with them. I've used it for years. The eBay Toolbar has a security tool that will alert you when you're on the paypal site (to avoid spoofed paypal sites). It turns the address bar a different color when you're on a valid Paypal site.

The one thing we've done with our paypal account....

We have a totally separate credit card & bank account specifically for paypal.
The credit card isn't used for anything else (zero balance) and the bank account only contains $100 outside of what we need to buy something.

Although this isn't totally safe - it's just a way of keeping our regular banking accounts & credit card account information away from the internet.

I've had an account since 2002. I never keep any money in it and only had money via credit card after all the horror stories I've heard. I've read www.paypalsucks.com and all that. I've never had a problem myself other than some questionable emails I think, but I changed my password and got one of those security tags for a while. On eBay I may sure whoever I buy from has at least 5,000 feedback with 98% or higher positive feedback. More sites beside eBay use paypal now so I use it more often, but since it automatically pulls from my CC I can dispute it with the bank if something happens I don't authorize. Also limits the number of companies getting my actual CC number (had that stolen once while I still had my card....).

The only thing that bothers me is I setup a business account in 2002, but have no option to change the name on the account. But I don't want to cancel and start over again so I still use it.

As a long-time ebayer, I have used paypal since the beginning, well over 500 transactions buying and selling. Also use it to buy stuff on the net. Never had a real problem.

The only problem, as someone above notes, are the "phishing" spoof emails that appear to be from PayPal. I always send to PayPal spoof email site to check, and usually have an answer in minutes.

someone who actually worked at paypal opened a second account in my parents name by just copying their original information and got a huge bill for some online gaming site. it took them 4 months to clear it up and paypal did not want to admit it was their mistake. i dont trust them

Paypal is awesome, I wouldn't want to use any other method to transfer money.
