    They look like brakes. ;)

What are you trying to diagnose on the brakes?

    Minimum pad thickness is 1.0mm
    Minimum rotor thickness is 20.0mm
    Maximum rotor runout is 0.07mm

    Haha thanks!

I just posted some pics in case there looked as if anything is wrong. I didn't think anything looked out of the ordinary, but like I said I know nothing about brakes haha

Really have nothing to go on as to what could be the cause. Not sure if the roaring noise at certain speeds is coming from bad alignment, unbalanced tires, or bad wheel bearings.

Alignment has been out of spec way before the roaring started happening.

Haven't rebalanced the tires since they were new, but the roaring just started randomly one day don't have any weird vibrations.

Only thing I noticed from what I checked at a little bit ago was that the passenger side was harder to turn by hand.

There was one night on the way back from work I was going about 30mph and turned slight right harder than I normally would take the turn and the sound went away. Tried reproducing it and haven't been able to... :notsure:

unbalanced tires are usually felt and not heard. You should have this done every so often just to minimize wear on the drivetrain.

If the alignment is out of spec, you need to get this fixed asap. It can be hard on the drivetrain, not just the tires.

If it went away on a right turn, it would point to the problem being on the passenger side. Could be the wheel bearing, the CV axle or possibly even the diff/axle stub.

The passenger side being harder to turn may be the caliper dragging more than the driver side. I've heard that the Tacoma brake calipers have a habit of seizing when they get old. This would manifest itself in the braking getting hard or the caliper not retracting fully. You'd have to pull the caliper and have someone pump the brakes to see how well they move. Then be prepared to retract the calipers (quick grips and some 1x2 pieces of wood work well at this).

The FSM doesn't point to a test for the 4WD wheel bearings (or I'm overlooking it). Couple of things to try are to push and pull the whole wheel inward/outward as well as to attempt to twist it (as if you are attempting to make your truck make a turn). This will help determine if there is play in the bearings, pointing to wear.

    Okay, got it.

For re-balancing the tires, I'll do that when I get an alignment. Can't get an alignment until I replace the tie rods due to the passenger side being seized. Hopefully I'll have time to get tie rods and ball joints replaced this coming weekend.

As for it being possibly being the cv, no clue how to check that. I plan to replace them next once I'm finished doing the LBJ's, tie rods, and carrier bearing.

Did the whole rotating the tire and pulling/pushing ordeal. Only movement was the little play in the steering. The tire itself wouldn't turn any more than the whole spindle itself did.

Thinking I might just take it to a reliable shop in town on Tuesday morning to see what they can find. Just hesitant on replacing the wheel bearings if they're not the problem, but at the same time seriously considering getting them replaced anyways in hopes that it fixes it. Hate troubleshooting this stuff when I have can't have a "downed" vehicle.

I, myself, am dealing with an issue most likely the LCA bushings or the wheel bearings. I'll have the alignment shop take a look at them when I bring it in.

Start with what is known to need to be done first. Best advice I have.

    Interesting... what are your symptoms?

Yeah... As long as my wheels don't randomly decide to stop turning from a wheel bearing failure! Haha just bugging me because it's the only out of the ordinary noise my truck is making. Oh, and a bad belt or pulley on the motor... Stupid Monticello Box Canyon

    Dang why'd you remind me....

Every time my rear suspension cycles slightly it squeaks. Need to push some more grease in the zerks and see if that gets rid of it.

When I pull forward into a parking spot and park, my tire tops point outboard. When I back into a parking spot and park, my tire tops point inboard. I'm guessing it is more an LCA bushing problem but really need to get it aligned before I do anything else.

What noise you got going on with the belts/pulleys?

Oh, yeah. Remember you mentioning that now....

The noise under the hood is just a typical chirping sound from a belt or pulley when at idle.

Like this, but not near as loud.

I'd check tension first then try some belt dressing, being careful with the overspray. Whem was the last time belts were replaced?

If I remember correctly they were replaced at around 90,000 miles by the PO. The truck currently has about 135,000 miles.

which points more to pulleys but cheaper/easier to start with belts first. Hopefully it is just a glazed spot or similar.

Yeah, worrying about this and cleaning out the power steering pump are last on my list of maintenance to get to really.

Gonna do the tie rods and LBJ's myself. Have a shop do the carrier bearing and wheel bearings if needed.

Then I'll do cv's, then start messing with the pulley's, belts, and power steering pump.

Oh, and then try to get my extended brake line on....

my carrier bearing slid right off the driveshaft while I was attempting to set it up in my press. The only hard part after that was doing the initial torqueing of 135lb-ft on the stake nut. Just need to find something to hold the driveshaft in.
