Yeah I've heard things like that about Herculiner.. And fading. I'll try the rustoleum probably, I think it's more or less textured paint haha.
I did a crappy photoshop mockup on my phone.. Includes my blacked out front bumper I'm planning. What y'all think? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1369633558.207460.jpg

That would be an 11 " difference too though. The overall numbers would be bigger but the difference would still be 11. I wish you were in CO so you could see it in person. Anyway my point was that you could get good travel numbers cheaper this way than with the big name kits. (Since you planning on going mid travel) If I get time I'll get the hub to fender numbers for you.

Hmm, interesting. If you say you're getting that, then I believe you though.

Trust me I wish I lived in Colorado too! That's where I want to retire!

The thing is, how well does it do at speed? One of the reasons I want to go mid-travel is to be able to go a little faster over bumps. My Eibachs are way too stiff for speed. I'm wanting to get as close to LT as I can without custom fab. So that means resies as well.

Just add a plate bumper. That'll soften up those springs ;) I'm wonderning the same thing with mine now. I've only driven around for about 10 minutes on my 883s, but they are definitely stiffer. They do soak up washboard roads and small bumps great though. A little weight up front will help a lot though.

Haha I'm trying to keep the weight down! I'm going aluminum when I get a plate bumper. But bumpers probably aren't happening for at least another year.

That is the same why mine is. Rides smoother but isn't as soft as stock. But when you're hitting a lot up bumps and stuff at around 10-15mph, it is very rough!

So, I'm not sure how is does at speed. Usually the fastest I'll go on dirt roads is 30 or 40. I've gotten the front end off the ground but it was less than an inch off. That being said, it did well for what I asked of it. Everything is still tight and it didn't feel like it was going to hurt itself. My setup has the 600 lb, 16" eibach coils over tundra 5100s and I have the winch and full steel skid plates that weigh me down a bit more. Maybe it's not the right setup for you, but I just wanted to let you know that there was a cheap option out there.

My spring rate is 620lb's. I don't see the shocks being a problem, I just think that with it being stock the coils are overkill.

They wouldn't be if I was still going with my original plan and buy a steel bumper. Now that I'm not getting a bumper for another 2 years maybe, and in aluminum at that, I don't need the stiff coils.

But like I said I want mid-travel anyways, so OME wouldn't have been any better for me. ;)

Haha yeah, and you told me to go OME which would have put in me in the same situation. :p

What coils do you have? I would have gotten 883's if I would have went with OME.

On rough roads back home it runs fine and is a lot smoother than stock, I'm talking about driving on stuff like this at around 5-10 mph. He is running Icons all the way around by the way.

I'll look at running under 20psi when I go home and see. I usually run 30psi up front and 28psi in the rear.

After you add bumpers(even al ones) skids and winch..you'll be happy to have 620lb coils. If not heavier. The valving of the shock will have more to do with how smooth the ride is then the coils themselves.

The only reason I rarely ever run low psi is because when I'm off road I don't have access to air. So I would have to get back on the highway and find somewhere, which I don't want to do to my tires.

That was just my example. We were out there, and every time I tried to get a little speed to get across somewhere, it would jolt around more than I would like. I don't remember how fast I was going, but I would just assume it was 10mph tops.

Trust me, anybody running Eibachs or OME would have been bouncing around out there. It was too bumpy in some places, but the Icons on the FJ were soaking them up pretty well. But there were some spots that even the FJ was getting bounced around at because we were in that sweet spot where you're not going slow or fast enough to get a good run over bumps.

I find my 5100s take stuff better the faster I go.

Air down. Buy a cheap air compressor to get you by for now. Makes a huge difference for the little bumps

Yeah, like I said I wasn't able to get up to speed before I hit stuff very hard...

I'll just wait and get a co2 set up later this year or early next year. I will try the under 20psi when I go home this weekend and see how well it rids down some rough dirt roads...

Okay. You also have to remember I was running 32psi all the way around at the time.

15psi is best all around on 12.5s

10 I use for real rough rocky shit.

    8 for snow.

Cool, I'm ready to see how it feels. I've never driven with tires under 28psi haha

I'm saying if anybody with OME or Eibachs would have been running out there with the same tires, same wheels, running the same psi would have had trouble. I thought it when I was typing, but didn't put it down... Haha
