When I PCS'd and couldn't take my car with me I left it with a friend. It worked out great.

I did the same thing but also left my GF too. Now they have two kids together and a beautiful family. Still friends with them to this day. Couldn't give her the life she deserved and knew he would.

Yeah, the last time I was there was in 2008...even then someone got drunk, broke into a local's house and passed out in their kitchen so there was a curfew imposed. Luckily I was there for just a week before deploying.

So what are you planning to do with your truck while you deploy? Personally I wouldn't put it into storage for longer than 6 months.

    Good luck and God Bless!

    Nah, you're good.

Someone once told me the definition of hell, "On your last day on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become." I read into this one way at first, that I would meet myself that had a lavish life that I never did. Now I see it in the other direction.

Good advice. Sell it and save while you're there. I haven't heard anyone with good experience storing for a PCS.

A sitting vehicle ends up with all kinds of problems. Better to drive it or ditch it.

I'm currently stationed in Japan (again) and didn't take my Taco either. However, I didn't bother to try. I got a DCLB and know how tight some of the roads are here so I didn't want to bring it. I had a Trailblazer SS last time and didn't take it then either. I'd see if you can talk to someone else at Personal Property, there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't take it. It'll cost a few g'$, but you can get it registered out here.

Never been to Okinawa, but heard good things about the place. Another thing to think about while your in Japan, is corrosion. I was stationed in Hawaii before too and shit corrodes more out in Japan. I'd be worried the undercarriage of my third gen becomes a second gen.

I'm on MSG duty and I bought my truck when I was home on leave. Literally had it for 2 weeks and left. I'm just buying parts for it now so when I get back I can just add them all at once. 7 more months till I'm reunited with my taco.

Unfortunately, it happens all to often in the military. I know plenty of troops that have similar stories. First wife went back to our hometown early before the first PCS and stayed there, decided the military life wasn't for her. Can't say I blame her, it's rough on some spouses (men and women alike). New wife is cool with it so far, at least she hasn't complained much the last few years/deployments/TDYs!
