I don't know. But once a week I would order a pizza. And because pizza boxes are stiff and pointy, I wouldn't throw them in the trash because they would tear my trash bags and if a full bag broke on the way out the door it would be tragic. So I put them in empty cupboards. The pizza boxes. Over time I amassed hundreds. But it was ok because I never had pest issues. Also I had no dishes so I had lots of room in said cupboards. It's a long story. But then my gf moved in and was like "what's wrong with you. You have a fabrication shop in your garage, but no dishes. You have a big ass house and no furniture but a gym in your basement. You're a savage" and it's kinda stuck.

These things are really popular, surprised I haven't seen more on TW.

Look up pics of guys pouring 4-6oz of sludge oil crap out of the catch can after a few thousand miles, and then you tell me if you want to run that shit through your engine.

That being said, I've never run one.

Super common. I worked in produce when I was in HS and College...we always found black widows in the Grape boxes. Found some type of banana spider or tarantula in a banana box once too.

Emissions. Oil vapor is bad. Cars today are designed to send it down your intake to combust it.
This combined with Exhaust gas recirculation valves to further ensure complete conbustion are common.

However oil vapor and exhaust residue collect readily in the intake and are the reason you need sea foam lime services to clean them out (Italian tune ups help too).

A catch can mod is the first thing you do on most modern diesels due to this.

Lots of really opinionated but nightly uninformed opinions in 3G...

According to the union contract savages are allowed 3 things to strongly dislike. You'll have to talk to my rep.

There are people here who are professional mechanics saying it is pointless. I'll take their advice over the keyboard warrior/garage/forum mechanic.

LOL. Yeah, we can fill the catch can pretty quick in a 25 hour endurance race. The revs are always 5k and up. Grueling on all parts. Can't have any leaks or fluids on the ground either or get penalized.

Mechanical Engineer, and enough of an enthusiast that I could run my own shop if I though I could make a $- I'm doing better on my current path.

And I do most of my own work, well, basically because Ive not found most professional mechanics that qualified, so you take their advice if you like. There are some really good and smart engineers and experienced engine/performance hobbyists out there that are not pro mechanics.

I think Nitori's post squared up most of it...

I have an aeronautical engineering background but I'm not about to start calling myself or comparing myself to a certified A&P with decades of hands on experience. Let the subject matter experts with experience be your guide.
