PCV grommet

    I know this is minor but in searching I saw this mentioned to check but never found where it was found to be an issue. My truck has had an occasional stumble at low and high idle on a couple trips lately. Not regular but intermittent. Would stumble several times one trip and not at all the next 20 mile drive. Same yesterday on a short hop about 5 miles, stumbled several times one way and perfect on the way back. Started checking things this afternoon, pulled plugs and they are all fine. Was about to order new distributor cap, rotor button, plug wires and plugs. Then found the PCV grommet almost separated in half top to bottom. New one in so hopefully that was the issue. The bad one is a napa grommet and no more than a year old. Still pliable. Dang thing almost got away from me and about fell in.

    Usually these stumbles are ignition related and I will suggest factory parts just to eliminate the doubt of aftermarket.

    Yeah dont buy the napa one....its made of a super hard rubber..

    That one is really hard to get out intact.....

    I would recommend just replacing with $4 doorman one every couple years...

    This and a failing brake booster are biggest secret vacuum leaks that are hard to detect...

    when you remove it, its best to go in there with a couple needle nose just in case....

    Thanks for posting this. I need to replace my PVC grommet before it gets too hard.

    Fortunately....if the bottom falls in ...it just gets caught on the baffle....

    then its a fishing trip........doesn't even get close to the valves...

    My original one disintegrated when I took it out, needle nose were definitely helpful

    Still have the intermittent skip. Ran perfect for a 5 mile hop yesterday eve. Then a few hours later on the way home it skipped 3 or 4 times in the first few hundred yards. Was fine the rest of the way. New OEM, distributor cap, rotor button, plug wires and plugs ordered. Current distributor cap, rotor button and plugs are aftermarket with 10k miles on them.

    No skips for several trips since that one event right after replacing the split & failed PCV grommet. I honestly think the skip was due to it. However, I went on and replaced the distributor cap, rotor button and spark plugs with OEM since they had aftermarket parts with 10K miles on them. Also replaced the original plug wires with OEM. Yesterday I tackled the fuel filter and amazingly did it in about 30 minutes. Expected far worse from all the reading I've done on it. Banjo fittings and bolts broke loose easy. I'd read somewhere about toyota recommending putting a light coat of motor oil on flared tubing to get a good seal when installing. I did that on the crush washers and it sure didn't seem to hurt anything. Was very smooth when tightening into them, no leaks. Running like a scalded monkey again.
