Thought I would share this since it took me some digging and caused some real stress and hope it can help somebody before they try to tap the valve covers.
my PCV valve is not cross-threaded. As far as I can tell now*

*this is not a PCV valve tutorial. Here are two great ones, it is actually a very simple service:

    https://paulstravelpictures.com/Toy...Engine-PCV-Valve-Replacement-Guide/index.html

now, for the point of my post.
I picked up an after market valve as well as a grommet for my 2012 2nd Gen.
After removing the OEM valve and began hand-threading the new one, I found it would only thread about 50% of the way in.
    I immediately thought I had cross-threaded it.
After substantial digging I found the post which I have attached an image of. As far as I can tell, the valve does not thread in 100%, likely tapered on the inside.
Additionally, I was led to believe there was a grommet that was supposed to go in as well. This is not the case either, as shown in the two tutorial’s I linked- they did not forget to include. I am under the impression the 4.0 simply doesn’t have one.

i hope others more experienced than I can confirm this and this post can quickly confirm to others that were in a similar position to myself today. I have also uploaded the best picture I could find of a newly installed valve and what it should look like.

Looks like you tightened yours in deeper than I did mine. I put a tiny bit of teflon paste on the threads, not really necessary. Looks like you’re ok.

If you screwed it in by hand several turns, then it is not cross threaded.

I think the PCV on the 1Gr-FE has a pipe thread. Remember, there is literally only a few inches of water pressure. No need to CRANK it in. Just nicely snug is plenty.
