Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has a 2nd gen with the 4.0 that they let the pcv system vent to atmosphere and how they did it. I don’t really want a catch can. Thanks

    Welcome to TW!

Are you getting smoke out of the tailpipe on steep climbs off road (indicative of burning oil)? If not, a catch can isn't necessary. Leave the PCV hoses in the factory arrangement.

4.0 has very little blowby/carbon issues. I wouldn’t bother. You can easily just remove the hose from the valve cover to the intake and extend it to the ground. Far from ideal as it will drip oil.

No it doesn’t burn oil, I was just curious cause I heard some guys talking about catch cans etc. if I unhook the hose from the intake wouldn’t I have to plug the hole with something? Anyways I’m in a state with hardly any smog regs I’m also thinking about doing a cat delete.

The PCVs purpose is to relieve pressure from inside the engine. Plugging that will lead to early failure of seals.

If you really think you need to unhook it, route a new hose down somewhere not subject to water and road debris. But keep in mind an open hose like that will probably still end up being plugged by bugs or mud daubers or something eventually. And you will need to plug the port on the intake

If you unhook the hose from the intake, you'd need to cap it on the intake, else you'd get a massive vacuum leak and throw a CEL.

Cat delete would be separate from any PCV modifications. Beware you can get a loud annoying rasp with the V6 if you delete the cats, since they also act as resonators. There's no power gain from deleting the rear cats, so...
