I own one on my jeep and taco. I think it's worth the money.

2019 LBOR. Installed about two months after buying the Taco. It drove like a completely different truck. Throttle response is great on the city setting and insane in other modes.

How does the pedal commander work with the ECT button activated? Is the throttle response increased or does the pedal commander just totally take over.

I have a sprint booster and shift Sense pro that I removed from my 2016 Tacoma that I would sell for cheap if anyone is interested. It made a world of difference on my tuck with 285s.

Just bought the pedal commander for $100. So far I’m happy with it! Definitely drives like a diff truck now. Even putting it on city +1 was enough to make me happy.

So I just installed mine and after a day of driving my Brake override warning popped off with the check engine light and TRAC off. Lost pedal power too. I liked it while it lasted i removed it for the time being, that seemed to fix it for now until I can get to a mechanic

Same thing happened with my buddy, he removed it and all was fine. If your truck drives fine and doesn’t have CEL, I wouldn’t bother going to the mechanic.

Sprint booster is same as PC and it doesn’t give any issues.

After a while it started throwing a code and putting my truck into limp mode. Removed it and never had the issue again. Gears were a far better investment for me.

I ran one on a Subaru Crosstrek only because the CVT sucked, I had a lift and bigger rims/tires. There were not many options for those dinky little things. I ended up turning it off most times and just sucking it up because I never trusted it.

I would NOT run one on this truck. I'd get a tune before investing in something like Pedal Commander.

I've had mine for a year and a half. Never a problem with codes or anything else and it combined with 4.88 gears turned my rig into a completely different truck.

Not worth buying if you think you'll ever get a tune.

I had the PC on my 2016 Tacoma and loved it for over a year. Totally worth it. To be honest, helped much more than after I got it tuned. Never a single issue personally. I am debating getting one for my 2019 over a tune. Though I know gears would be awesome.

Is there a website for the Tune? I looked on the Web and could not find a listing of all authorized Tune dealers. I live in PA. Thanks.

There’s no one “tune” but there are several tuning resources that offer their own brand based on the original OVTunes. If you want to research all the different resources you can find what you need in threads on TW but it’s a lot to wade through. My preference would be KDMax Pro (yes I’m biased). Shoot a pm to @PapaRee and start the process.

Thanks for explaining about the various Tunes. I thought so since there was not a Tune specific brand. I am going to look at the KDMax Pro. Appreciate the feedback.

I installed a pedal commander which was simple and easy to do HOWEVER it started throwing up codes on my truck soon after a couple test drives and the only solution to remove the codes was to remove the install which fixed the problem. I have since gone with the OVtune which I am more than happy with (plus I still have my ECT button and an ECT always on mod to be installed).

For the short period the pedal commander worked it was a very positive noticeable difference in throttle response.

So if anyone is interested in trying for themselves I have pedal commander unit I’ll let go for $125 shipped…pm me if interested.

**my 17’ taco is an automatic FYI**

I had one on my 6MT 2nd gen. I returned it after a couple weeks.

For me, to get the enhance throttle response in gears 2-6 - where I wanted it - I had to deal with way too much throttle response in 1st gear. Was hard to get going from a complete stop without screeching tires every time and even worse if there was any sand/rocks/snow on the road or trying to start going even slightly uphill.

The technology is definitely not a placebo - despite what folks who've never owned one will say - I just don't like the effect it has on how the truck performs.

Had my PC on my 2018 Sport with 35" tires drove great! Took it off when I sold the truck and now it's on my 2021 TRD OR and still loving it! I believe I have it on City +1 or +2? Would definitely buy it again.
I was thinking about a tune? But I didn't like the fact that it would void all the electronics warranty on the truck.
If I ever have an issue with the truck I can easily remove the PC and take it to the dealer.

P.S. I hated how the truck drove with the PC on "Sport" Mode +2. Crazy down shifting! But I guess if I were racing the truck that might be a good thing??LMAO!!
Best thing is that you can easily change the tune while you're driving to see what's best for your driving style.

    I disagree!
    A placebo does absolutely Nothing!
A tune changes the way the electronics control your drive system. (ECU signal changes)
PC changes the way your electronics control your drive system. (Throttle signal control)

Both "electronically" change what the truck is directed to do. They just do it in different ways.
Both retain the exact same drivetrain!

-One you need to pay someone to do it for you every time you want your truck to perform different.
    -One you can change yourself.
    -One Voids you factory Warranty.
    -One doesn't.
    -One can easily be removed.
-One you need to take it to someone to remove it.

Both improve the way your truck performs. (Better driving experience)

So both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Toyota is now updating the software at the dealership. Probably because they researched the "black market" tunes and decided to incorporate it into the software. (So you can actually get a good tune for FREE at the dealership and retain your factory warranty) and still tweak your performance with the PC.

I'm tuned and I don't need to pay anyone to do any of that for me. And I can flash back to stock without the dealership ever knowing I was tuned.

Could you explain how the "average mortal" can get it done by themselves?
