You're right, that is a difficult thing to do. I have actually written my own software to help the group I'm in with tuning. It can run through a log of over 200k lines in seconds, and display the data we need to make adjustments. It's all a part of the learning process though. There are certainly some things that could cause issues. The torque shifting maps could be refined to give smooth shifting until you just barely touch the shift points. On the bright side, it doesn't exactly work like your typical software. It's about as basic as it could be. It's assembly code and at most it's 2MB worth of data. Imagine the tune as a bunch of arrays (sure, technically everything can be an array in a program, but that's beyond the point :p)
There are really only 1D arrays (variables/constants) and 2D arrays in the tune that you can adjust. There are 3 dimensional maps but they're still 2D arrays. You're not skipping a subroutine or method, nor are you changing them, you're only altering the data within each array. And, if you get the tune kit, you can alter the stock file. So you would know everything that was changed because you did it yourself. The biggest concern I would have, because it's assembly, would be changing the memory location for a variable/array that is called from an outside source (a separate ECU for example). But, we cannot do that. We cannot change the size of the arrays, nor can we input a value that's outside of the boundary for that specific data type. If the value is an integer, long, signed integer, etc., we are restricted to that data type size and the values that can fit within.

I agree, we do have the choice and I don't fault you for that since it doesn't affect me negatively in any way.

I'd never heard of TTORA, but I did Google it. Based on what little I saw, I have no desire to join, lol.

Ah??? Now you have clarified my thinking about what the tune was doing.
I was looking at it from the wrong point of view, (of course I have never really looked in to the tune before) I assumed it was actually changing or removing some of the codes.
But from what you are saying, all it is doing is setting different parameters/values and trigger points. (Which makes way more sense!)
(I guess it was because I was annoyed at "Karen", and human nature made me closed minded about the subject). :frusty:
I did take the time to look at the link you posted and it does show some interesting possibilities.
I haven't written off doing a tune. I'm still open to the option.

My only intention on this thread was to give my personal experience about the PC, and whether I liked it or not.
Sad that it turned into such a shit show and got off topic. :angrygirl:

I appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me on this subject! Glad we had this discussion! Later if I have more question I'll message you if you don't mind?

    You have a Great Night!

Good Lord, Toast, give it a rest. You like the tune, wonderful. Those who don't want a tune and like both the idea and implementation of what a PC does are not stupid, desperate or faking their trucks. You made your point, some agree, some disagree. Sometime, recognize that there is little, if any, mind-changing going on with your pejorative diatribes.

Yeah there is just no reasoning with a "KAREN".
I was looking at some of his other posts and he acts like this all the time.
I sure hope he isn't a person that does these tunes, He would be the last person I would ever want touching my truck.

I just installed one in my 2019 SR5 and it seems to work great. A definite improvement!
