    Your bad bro.

You already knew the frame recall existed and didn't even take a step to covering yourself on the new truck.

    Why is that Toyota's fault?

If anything, DMV dropped the ball, but you should have known to register as the new owner of the '02 with toyota. Tough break, GL

I see both of you at fault, you knew enough to make damn sure you were in warranty compliance so this mess is on you but also they are on the hook because they didn't contact you.

get a lawyer and you will win. their failure to contact you as the true owner means they are on the hook for it and cannot exclude you based on them contacting the wrong person.

it wont be easy but you will win in the end since their own records show they failed to contact you

Did you have Toyota inspect the frame on your 2004 before you bought it??

These frames are rotting from the inside out. Unless you had it inspected by Toyota... you can't make a self diagnosis based on what it looks like on the outside. Not Toyota's fault at all....... They can't possibly inform everyone and can't babysit consumers either.

I sold my 96 tacoma 11 years ago. I told the guy to have Toyota inspect the frame. He never did.... and when his frame almost split in half 5 years ago....He sent me an email wanting to know how or who could fix it. Toyota's fault?? I don't think so.

My truck is at the dealer now and I was just informed that I need a new frame. Believe me, I thought my frame was pretty good for being 8 years old. I knew there was a soft spot..and apparently...they must have poked thru it. I haven't picked up the truck yet to see it...or talk to anyone yet. I'm just glad they're taking care of things the way they are.

I will also agree to disagree.

200k in student loans? Noted.. I'm surprised someone with that expensive of an education can't see their own fault in this situation.

As it was said before me. Good luck. :)

Exercise your rights as a consumer, by all means. Take some of the blame, learn a lesson, go forward as you wish.

Or you can complain about being wronged by The Man because you can't, as a TW member since 2009, have possibly known about recalls and undercoatings, VIN checking and frame replacements.

Right? Our bad. Their bad. Definitely not your bad.

Sorry bud. I'm going with Toyota. Do you realize how often vehicles change hands? There is no way you could trust the DMV to forward your ownership to Toyota.

If you go to the Toyota Owners website and enter your vin, there will be a list of recalls that needed to be done on your truck. toyotas back is covered.

Besides, you got your first truck bought back at 1.5x its actual value. I think it's a bit un realistic that Toyota should buy you a second.

And lastly, knock off the working your ass off bullshit to get thru school, any of us that are successfully at all had to work our asses off too. That dog won't hunt.
