I'm considering buying a Pelfreybilt front skid plate for my 2011 TRD Off Road. Should I go with the aluminum or steel version? Also, how does the powdercoat hold up? Thanks.

Steel will be much stronger, but heavier. If you do hard rock crawling, go steel. If you just want some piece of mind on some less crazy trails, go aluminum. Powdercoat will hold up great until it gets scratched.

Btw Pelfreybilt isn’t taking orders right now and there’s a pretty big issue going on with them right now. There’s a few threads on here about it.

You can’t buy from them at the moment, and likely never again based on how things are looking.

I see you’re in NY. You should check out mobtown offroad who’s down in Delaware. Shipping would likely be pretty cheap.

As far as step vs AL, it all depends how you plan on using your truck.

If you plan to go to any of the Offroad parks up that way, go steel. Aluminum will not survive on much more than fire roads. Just ask @Subway4X4 who is up near you.

We aren’t too far from you and the TW express is pretty active around here. Might be able to get it to you for free if someone is coming thru our area to yours. Even if not, shipping is most likely $30-$40.

Like it was already said previously, if you're planning on going to off road parks, don't make my mistake and just get steel.
If all you want is driving on the beach or Pine Barrens , aluminum should suffice.

Edit. And yeah, might have issues trying to buy from Pelfrey right now...

Aluminum is if your skid is for accidents when you unintentionally bump an obstacle usually at low speeds probably just a handful of times over the life of the truck. If you actually expect to routinely make contact then steel.

I use my truck for camping and so I have aluminum. For someone actually rock crawling definitely steel.

    As to Pelfreybilt... he ded.
