A couple of months ago someone stole my Pelican case. It was locked and mounted on my PrInSu rack, so they stole the three HD cross bars it was attached to, together with the Rotopax mount.

I wanted a way to mount the Pelican such that it could be quickly and easily removed for indoor storage when I'm not on the trail, and reasonably secure when it is mounted up. I checked out a system made by (EO)2 Fastener, thought it might work, and ordered one up. It consists of 2 aluminum plates, one mounted to the rack and the other mounted to the case. They snap together in such a way that there is literally no chance that they can come apart on the road, but the case can be quickly removed by a reasonably strong adult.

The 32" bottom mounting rail is bolted to the crossbars. I used drop in t-slot nuts and 1/4-20 bolts in six locations. Plenty strong enough.IMG_0843.jpg

The 16" top rail was bolted to the bottom of the case. It must sit flush, so I used a dremmel with a cut-off wheel to remove the ribs on the bottom of the case. I drilled out the existing mounting holes on the rail to accept 1/4-20 bolts and mounted it up.IMG_0847.jpg
You can see where I removed some of the ribbing. The black patches are where I sealed up the holes I had previously drilled for u-bolts.IMG_0848.jpg

Ugly for sure, but it doesn't show.

The case sits about an inch higher than it used to, but not bad.IMG_0853.jpg

I ordered the top rail with a lock for on-the-trail security.

    Shovel Mounts:
I used some aluminum bar stock to fab up these quick fist shovel mounts. Painted them with Rustoleum Truck Bed Liner, and they almost look like Zach made 'em. Work great!

I hope the set up you came up with works better for you and prevents theft attempts. Where did the theft take place? I have the same set up and a concern I have is leaving my campsite for a hike and returning to find out someone has helped themselves to my gear that was secured to the roof rack.

The theft happened in my driveway in the middle of the night. The Pelican case is a tempting target inasmuch as they assume it contains a weapon. My solution lets me remove it in literally 3 seconds for secure storage indoors.

Most people use them for stuff they hope they won't need: tools and recovery gear. Saves room in the back for camping gear and, for me, a wooden view camera and two tripods.

@bruce, I noticed on their website offer a low profile a high profile bottom. Which profile did you get? I'm looking to get my pelican case mount onto my Prinsu rack.

This thread is a couple of years old, but I copied this when I mounted my Pelican. Works great.

I like this option. The pelican cases always seem to draw interest and this looks like a better option.

I’ve been looking at the minnkota mounts for a boat motor. They are small but sturdy and can be disconnected if you want to take the case off. I don’t wanna daily drive with on my truck so I want something that is easy to remove but not too expensive.

It says you can attach a padlock to it as well. If it can hold a trolling motor, I’m sure it will be strong too.

Let us know, I don’t even have my Plano case yet. I’ve had it in the cart but just waiting for it to keep dropping in price. I’ve just been looking at options so I can remove it easily.
