Most hard case rifle carriers I've seen mounted are NOT Pelicans.

Often times they are Plano or some other Chinese knock off brand. If you got the dough, sure why not.

If you are wondering how they are mounted - drill holes, use some rubber grommets to help seal the holes and then mount.

Mine is a Pelican Vault case. I forget the size, but I'll check when I get home from traveling. The Pelican Vault cases are cheaper than standard Pelican cases, but they are also quite a bit lighter in weight. I had this case mounted to the Front Runner rack on my 4Runner prior to moving it to the Tacoma. Holds my tools, air compressor and some recovery stuff.

I wanted a case that was just a bit taller so that my Viair compressor would fit. Weather seals are perfect even after a year in midwest elements. Truck stays parked outside too.

Here it is mounted on my old 4Runner.

I finally got around to taking some more pictures of my Pelican Vault case. I did confirm mine is the V700, but as you can see from the pictures, there is easily room for the 730 or possibly the 800 with a Prinsu rack. I bolted mine up with a combination of SS carriage bolts, lock washers, fender washers and rubber washers. Inside, there's plenty of room for my Viair compressor and hose, tire repair kit, tool roll, torque wrench, breaker bar, trash bags and misc. gear. I keep in locked by a couple of exterior rated Master Lock padlocks. It's relatively low profile and easily fits in our 7'-2" parking garage at work, with approx. 4" to 6" to spare.

Pelican 1720. Have it kicking around. Hate using it as a rifle case, so it now carries all of my gear. Working well, easy to keep the weather out.

I recently mounted a v770. I wanted the skinnier model so I could still fit my rod racks up top if I needed too.

Nice set up brotha. I just bought the v700 and planning on mounting it on my prinsu. What’s the length of the carriage bolts that you used? Wondering if the 1” carriage bolts that I just bought will be long enough to use with a stainless steel washer and rubber washer.

I think those would be long enough. I'm not sure what length I had used.

How's the weatherproof for those rubber washers? Seems much better than having to use silicone to fill the gap on the holes. And looks great im going to mount mine tomorrow.

They've been fine so far. I've never has issues with moisture coming in from the mounting holes. I will say, I did start to have issues with the seal on the newer Vault case leaking around the lid. The Vault case that is over a year older has had no signs of leaks. I did have a few camp chairs up in that box which may have prevented a good seal, but I'm not sure.

Bolted my V700 to the Prinsu today. Not much to review. Not as robust as more expensive Pelicans, but I don’t so much need a ‘super protective case’ on my roof for storage. This is also why I decided against Roam cases- just too much money for the same functionality. This thing isn’t going to be tossed around by baggage clerks or shipping companies. I just wanted simple storage.

Oh, and for the individual who asked about bolt size, I used 1” carriage bolts. 3/4” would be long enough.

Roam 83L is the answer…waterproof, and already has internal struts which are game changers on top of a roof rack.

And it’s $500 by the time I buy the hardware to mount it w/out drilling through it. The return on investment isn’t worth it to me for literally just a storage box. I’ll take 98% of the Roam functionality at 1/3 the price w/ the Vault case. As for the struts, I don’t need assistance lifting the cover- the only benefit is keeping the cover in place once open, which I can achieve for a couple bucks with a prop or braided steel lanyards. Believe me, I nearly pulled the trigger on 2 Roam cases but the value just isn’t there. They weren’t even going to cost me a dime since I have years of gift cards from work stacked in my Amazon account and I still couldn’t justify the cost.

The other caveat is that they’re 50” long and would block the view out of my moonroof. I use it often and don’t want it blocked, so the shorter Vault case fits the bill better for my application.

go be poor somewhere else..i got military/leo pricing with free shipping. If you want to scrounge around to save $100 be my guest, but I’m not about to mount a storage box on top of my $45k plus rig just because it saved me a few dollars.

You’re dumb at the maths, kid. Dumb at comprehension too, considering I also said the Roam cases were too long and would block my moonroof. My $45k rig is a weekend toy that’s been paid for outright since day one. And buying cases other than Roam that are fundamentally identical in function frees up nearly 7x of the ‘$100’ you’re misrepresenting that I’d be ‘scrounging around for’ even though I stated in plain text that they’d be free due to accumulated monies in my Amazon account.

But tell me again that I’m poor as I glance at my portfolio because I love having a laugh at the expense of ignorant simpletons like yourself.
