Getting the negatives doesn't annoy me keep them coming. Everyone I get I will picture you on your brother or sister and just keep laughing. He is as bad as a pedophile, I don't care when the guy left. He has known since 2002 almost 12 years. Prison prison prison. Let's see him wake up every morning with a cell mate named Bubba.

Nobody knows what he did, but I think we can be pretty confident he knew something was up. He would have had an amazing legacy.... its too bad he had to ruin it by coaching for too long, and not living up to his responsibility as a leader and a mentor.

If I had someone working directly under me for 15 years that was molesting students not only would I resign from my job I would most likely blow off my head out of pure guilt.

These coaches are supposed to be known for their good judgment in regards to talent and personality. Do you honestly believe no one on the teams staff though this coach was a little weird?

I know the students of PSU will take this personally due to JP's status as a football god and look for any hole in the reports, but that is 100% irrelevant. He is no better then anyone on the street who refuses information that has to do with a felony. IMO he should be jailed and his pension revoked.

I do understand sweeping sexual abuse under the carpet is typical for universities, but for a "god like" coach to do it or have staff under him doing it means he was actually a horrible coach. A good coach would of gone to the authorities with any and all information and would of had the pulse of his team and staff. In the end this guy was clueless.

Look I'm not saying he didn't drop the ball and shouldn't have done more, he certainly could have. But saying he should go to jail is silly at this point. No one knows exactly what he was told or what he knew. And child predators are notorious for deceiving people. What about Sandusky's wife, what about the Second Mile organization he founded and was plucking these kids from, and what about the two people who actually witnessed his crimes. None of them did anything. There are countless people that "should have known" and there are in every case like this. It's absurd that Joe is the one being bashed the most, if someone wasn't paying attention you might actually think he was the pedophile.

2002, immediately after he was told by the witness.

And also, know this, one of Joe's supervisors he told and who talked to the witness oversaw the university police department at the time. There's a lot more to the story than anyone knows right now. Seriously, read the grand jury indictment, and at this point wait for more facts to come out.

"On Monday law enforcement officials said that Mr. Paterno had met his legal obligation in alerting his superiors at the university when he learned of the 2002 allegation against Mr. Sandusky. But they suggested he might well have failed a moral test for what to do when confronted with such a disturbing allegation involving a child not even in his teens."

That's code for there is not a legal case against JoPA. But holly smokes, a graduate coaching assistant comes to his house to report (I can't write what he reported it's just too sick). Society has no forgiveness when someone fails in their responsibility to protect children. I don't think JoPa is a bad person, but he's so mono focused on football and he wrongfully believed that the institution would take care of this inconvenient problem.

I'm just addressing the main focus of this thread which is JP and that is why he is getting bashed. If the title and supporting news in the OP were on a different topic then I would bash the others. In the end he was the head coach and any issues that arise during his tenure will fall on his shoulders as the leader.

I fell bad for the university and their alumni, but in the end the university did harbor a child molester during JP's tenure.

I didn't mean you specifically, the media in general is whipped into a frenzy going after JoePa and if you read the indictment he is the last person on a long list of people who should have done something before now.

    I know right?

Listen, I understand everyone's opinions here. I agree, and disagree with certain aspects of every post, I started this thread to announce Joe Pa's early retirement, and to take a moment to remember this icon to college football, and to state college PA. He is an American icon, one who young coaches will look up to. Maybe he made a wrong choice by doing what he did, who hasn't. Can any of you honestly say that you would step up to the plate in a time of need like that? He reported the situation to who he needed to report it to.

the media is all over this. i work in state college daily. i saw no less than 10 different news vans in town today and over half of them were from out of town. it is sad that this is the way joe has to go. yes he was planning his retirement but this just pushes it up. the man did a lot for the university and the area. happy valley is happy valley because of the economy in the area. it wouldnt be that way if it werent for the school that joe built on his football program.

I did not read the report, and I do respect what the man has done for the university, football...BUT look at it from a smaller scale perspective. If he was the shift supervisor at McDonald's and his fry cook came up and told him that they had witnessed a similar event, would he have an obligation to call the cops, or to just tell the manager and call it a day? That is completely ridiculous.

I am not saying he did not do a lot for the school. Just saying he harbored a pedophile, as did some others at the school. So he should lose all that lovely retirement money he would get. He is as guilty as the pedophile.
