The final selling price for my mom's Escort was five grand, but she didn't have five grand just lying around at the time, so she financed. Actually, the amount financed was like just over five grand, so the car might have been more and that's just the downpayment. She had the original paperwork for the car and that's how I was able to figure all of this out. My mom had good credit, but this was the 1980s and with the interest rate she got, that Escort ended up costing almost double when she paid it off.

I also got the VIN from the paperwork and ran it through Carfax. My mom sold the car in 1990 when they moved to Pennsylvania. The car ended up in Truckee, California (near Tahoe) and failed a smog test in 1997 according to the Carfax report. After that, the trail goes cold, which lead me to believe that the car was either junked or is sitting in someone's driveway. Cars just do not rust in California, and it is in fact the goddamned draconian smog tests that ends up sending cars to the parking lot in the sky when they still have a lot of life left; I would not be surprised if that car was still in decent condition when it was taken off the road. The lack of air-conditioning probably played a significant role in nobody wanted. With the exception of the 1986 Mazda B2000 that my dad bought in 1990 and obviously his two Harleys, every vehicle my parents have purchased since 1990 has had A/C...

    • 1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 (1990-1998)
    • 1992 Dodge Dakota LE (1992-1993)
    • 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer (1993-1996)
    • 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE (1996-2009)
    • 1990 Mazda B2600i (1998-2000)
    • 2000 GMC Safari (2000-2004)
    • 1987 Mercedes 300E (2003-2005)
    • 2004 Honda Odyssey EX (2004-2013)
    • 2003 Honda S2000 (2005-2007)
    • 2002 BMW 325i (2006-2008)
    • 2008 Acura TL (2008-2014)
    • 2010 Toyota Tacoma (Mine; 2009-present)
    • 2013 Honda Pilot Touring (2013-2018)
    • 2013 Nissan Murano SV (2014-present)
    • 2018 GMC Yukon SLT (2018-present)

Yeah, we've had a lot of vehicles!

It's great we have many choices. The Bronco is a toy, and much better in the 2dr, MT version I think than the 4dr auto. Mine is everything the FJ wasn't. The FJ was by far the better vehicle, but the Bronco is easier to modify and a lot more fun. It's not my daily driver, so I really don't care about any Ford issues, as much of the suspension and drivetrain will eventually be replaced anyway. One thing it's great at is getting me into tight trails the Tacoma would never make. Top and doors off makes me happy any time I'm in it.

Competiton is a good thing. Jeep has already adapted and started offering bigger tires and better suspension and motor options since the Bronco came out. I'm hoping Toyota will finally build what the FJ should have been, but I'm sure they won't. I'd love to have a modern, topless FJ.

They are called Mattracks and they are meant for going in the snow; I do not think they are street legal, and they are certainly not meant for use in anything but snowy or possibly muddy conditions...

It's a 1979 Ford Bronco, and as such it is titled and registered as a 1979 Ford Bronco. However, the interior, engine, and a few other modern features like the keyless entry pad were "donated" by a totaled 2014 Ford F150. As such, even though it's legally 1979 Ford Bronco, it has modern features like fuel injection, 4-wheel disc antilock brakes, a backup camera, automatic climate control, and heated seats! However, even though it has modern guts, it is still exempt from emissions testing in most states that require it due to its age!

Damn. That's the paint job I learned to drive on. Deep emerald green pleather interior, too.

If I would ever own a bronco, that would be the color.

I am a big fan of Ford's keypad on the door. Its super convenient to lock the keys inside while on a hike or going for a swim.
