Was it street legal? Did it pass emissions testing in Arizona?

This was in Wa state and 100% legal, we were in a county with no vehicle testing, just pay to register and have insurance and bam your good. Lots of fun, drove it a lot too, was his girlfriend's daily often cause she liked it more than her much newer and nicer Forester.

Yeah, most of wa has really easy to pass tests, basically pass a tail pipe test (just purposely lean it out a lot) or OBDII (have no codes). But some low population counties have no testing at all. AZ has no test counties too haha. It was a stick, shifted really nicely still too. Had vacuum actuated transfer case, add, heat controls. GM really had a boner for vacuum actuated crap, half of it I had to replumb haha.

Have you been under the hood of any unrestored 1980s General Motors product recently?

    @Speedytech7

To date, this has been the ONLY stock 1991-newer FIRST GEN S-10 EXTENDED CAB 4x4 I've ever photographed...

I was at a car show in the parking lot of the Allentown Farmer's Market, and I spotted it in the spectator parking lot. I started chatting with the owner, whose dad was the original owner, and not only got a brief history of the truck but got permission to take all the photos I wanted!

    :woot:

This is a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 extended cab 4x4, with the 4.3L TBI V6 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission (150K miles at time pictures were taken). This truck has the so-called luxury-level Tahoe trim. Extended cab S-10s were available in either base or Tahoe trim, and in my opinion there was very little difference between the two. The most significant difference was the interior upholstery...

This truck also had that GOD AWFUL custom two-tone paint originally, with the tape stripe separating the different colors. The two-tone effect itself wasn't bad looking, but the tape stripe inevitably ended up peeling, as did the clearcoat on the actual paint. The owner of this truck had it completely redone in the factory colors, but did it entirely in paint (no tape stripes here)!

The rims on this truck are from a 2003 S-10 ZR2. This truck came from the factory with only three notable options, despite having the so-called "luxury-level" Tahoe trim; these options were air-conditioning, automatic transmission, and AM/FM cassette.

This truck came from the factory WITHOUT cruise control, tilt steering, power windows/locks/mirrors, and even intermittent windshield wipers!

However, it did have a 1990s-vintage built-in mobile phone (no longer functional but all there), and according to the owner, the A/C was still R-12, fully operational, and ICE COLD!

NOTE: The owner told me that the damage to the right front was the result of a run-in with a deer. There was no structural or mechanical damage...

The dash in my buddy's 84 said Tahoe on it and so did the title. I remember that, it was kinda beat up but I remember it looked like it had faux stainless steel panels on the dash haha. I don't miss GM TBI motors though, God they were awful with the 305 and 350 being some of the worst, they barely had enough cam profile to form enough vacuum for the MAP sensor to measure so they idled and stumbled and the injectors we're shit that needed rebuilding so often. New TBI from Holley and MSD is great but OEM GM TBI and Spider injection (look that nightmare up) were just a waste of otherwise good engines.

The TBI V8 engines in the 1993-newer trucks were good...?

Good in the same way stubbing your toe can be good, like you know what not to do next time. They're easy to fix but they make no power, waste fuel, and run really spotty. When they finally switched to MultiPoint Injection everything got better again. Their TBI was just a mess for a number of reasons, the system was poorly developed.

I love the trucks though! Would love to get my hands on a '93 or '94 Chevy CK and drop a crate 350 in there!

Oh yeah, the engines themselves are great, just that injection system was bad. You put a normal profile cam in the V8 (cause the TBI cam is basically a power condom) and throw a carb on it and your back to making power on the cheap. Or hell drop a grand and put Holley EFI on it and make more power with the added perks of easy cold starts and easy computer tuning. The early S platform is easy to wedge a 350 in too which is awesome. I love a good Chevy V8, just finished fixing a 96 c1500 with the 302 V8 for a friend actually.

Also you should check out the YouTube channel FuzzyDicePimp, he is a super nice dude that has some videos of him putting a V8 in his S10 Blazer and then rebuilding parts of it too.

Did the 454 trucks have this problem with the injection system too?

Strangely there is some infighting amongst Chevy dudes on what to call it, the spec plate on the core support calls it a 5.0L Vortec and I forget what the manual lists for CI, which converts closest to a 305 I suppose but lots of folks on the forums refer to it as a 302. Haha, I like 305 more cause it is more in line with old Chevy displacements but I think technically the manual calls it a 302 :/

I have a large collection of 1980s and 1990s Chevrolet brochures! Some were purchased on eBay, and most were purchased at shows and swap meets...

Here is the S-10 section of the 1993 CHEVY PICKUPS full-line brochure...

Note how Chevy touts the Tahoe trim as "luxury-level"

I would assume so but they may have had a gnarlier cam profile because there was never any guise of fuel economy with a big block vehicle of any sort haha. A bigger cam can do wonders to mask TBI issues but it'll still have issues fueling at high rpm and low rpm, just the power band will be better.

One of the original Camaros ('69 Z/28 I think) had a 302 because that was the largest displacement allowed in a specific race...

I'd love to put a custom 502cid in one of the 1-ton dually trucks, and a 4.10 locking rear!

    Again...
