Did you do all the custom stuff to it, or did it come that way?

 

A friend of mine helped me lower it. I swapped the mirrors, installed the roll pan, removed all of the body side moldings( by hand and without a heat gun. Never again!). A body tech at the dealer I used to work at flipped the tailgate handle. The inside was stock as stock gets.

 

Have a soft spot for these trucks as well. HUGE fan of the 4.3L too. They were basically a 350 minus 2 cylinders. I had a spotless '96 S-10 Blazer (2-door, 4x4, auto, 4.3), and my Dad still has (what used to be HIS Dad's) 95 S-10 (extended cab, 2wd, auto).

Also have to mention the pre-S-10. My buddy in high school had a pretty clean one... the Chevy LUV!

Whenever I see a customized and/or debadged pre-1981 LUV, or a customized and/or debadged 1970s Toyota Hilux, I get the two mixed up!

 

I heard it was the same 700R4 that was in the 1/2 ton trucks but it was an S-10 version that was modified and not as good as the ones in 1/2 ton trucks.

 

I spotted this parked behind the Mesquito Grill in the summer of '13, and the owner's friend happened to be walking out of the restaurant. I asked if I could take pictures of the truck, the guy called his friend who owned the truck, and I got permission to take all the photos I wanted! I also got a bit of info on the truck as well! The ownership history of the truck was not entirely clear, but the owner got this truck for next to nothing and absolutely loved it! My jaw about dropped when he told me it had about 289K miles on the original 4.3L Vortec V6 (this truck had a 4-speed automatic, the age and originality of which was unknown).

This is a very oddly optioned truck, and a special order without a doubt.

Here's why...

The regular cabs with the 7-foot long bed were not as popular (and thus not as common) as the short bed models or even the extended-cabs (which by default only came with a standard short bed). This truck has the Tahoe Value Package, but the original owner opted to pay extra for a 4.3L V6 and automatic transmission instead of getting the 2.8L V6 at no extra charge. The Tahoe Value package adds power steering (optional on 2WD regular cab trucks even in 1993; power brakes with rear ABS were standard on all models, even the no-frills EL), AM/FM cassette, rear slider, and a few other options. The original owner of this truck also ordered the Driver's Convenience Package, which adds a tilt-wheel adjustable steering column and intermittent windshield wipers, and cruise control. They did not order the Operating Convenience Package (which includes power windows and locks; very uncommon on regular cab S-10s), or the power mirrors (available on regular cab models but also very rare on this configuration). This does not surprise me. However, what did absolutely shock me was that this truck was ordered without air-conditioning! A/C was about a $900-$1,000 option, and you'd think that with the money saved, the original owner would have spent $252 for a G80 locking rear differential. NOPE! I told the present owner how to check if his truck had a posi rear, and a check of the RPO code sticker in the glovebox confirmed it. I believe this truck had 3.42 gears, and it may have even had the Trailering Special Package (though the factory weight-distributing hitch platform has long since been removed if it did have the towing package). I can't help but wonder why the original owner spent a small fortune on options and upgrades, but opted not to get A/C...

Every S-10 enthusiast knows that the ZR2 package was not available on the 4-door Blazer, but this one has a lift kit, mud tires, and a nicely upgraded aftermarket suspension...
