    Haven't read every post but.....

1st ....the 4 cyl air injection system did not have the same problems as the '12 V6 pump's reed valve issues.

The RC 4x4 5 speeds were semi rare when new. Nowadays even more so. With vehicles like that, the time to buy is when you find it. This combo is becoming a unicorn. Dragging your feet will net you a loss .

If you have a automatic 2WD Taco then I totally understand you wanting to trade for a 4x4 stick shift... no doubt about it you will be glad you did. I think you could do better than that particular truck though. If you spend some time looking on cars.com or CL you can prob find one a little newer/less miles than that one for around 15k.

So there are no more 4cyl manuals being made? I know there are no more regular cabs produced. The regular cab 4 cal manual is the quintessential Toyota truck. I have a 2013 just like is pictured with 22,000 miles. I wonder what it’s worth?
As much as I like it OP I’d still keep your truck as long as you never need 4 wheel drive.

Bit not if you're stuck in stop and go traffic for 2 or 3 hours a day, everyday. l had a stick but after my commute to and from home every day, my leg and knee would be killing me. I hated not buying a stick on my next vehicle. But I couldn't take the pain and discomfort anymore. If my commute wasn't so bad, I never would have given up my 5 speed??
    Still miss it at times.

Not worth it. Why go into payments on a 7 year old truck? Plus, you know the history of your truck like you said

$14k is spot on for that truck. But do you really need 4x4? That is the question I'd be asking myself.

Go to carcomplaints.com you can look up any make any model any year. It list all complaints files for every year. I think 07 or 08 or 09 had the least complaints! My 03 only had stupid amber light issues from new. Got new headlights, and the bed thing that toyota made good on. Not sure if mine was replaced but I have no rust in nc! Hope this helps others choose a new car

Keep your truck, its paid for.You would be gaining nothing basically with the 2012 truck, its a 4x4 so what most guys never use it anyway.

Worth the trade to get a 4x4. Opens a lot more fun places up to go.

@PennSilverTaco i went through the same delema with my old truck 08 5 lug RC and the one I have now 11 4x4 RC.

Old one was paid off in pretty good shape but I really wanted the 4x4 to get me where I want to go. I REALLY regret getting rid of my old truck.

So I’d say keep the truck you’ve got now unless you really see the need for 4x4. Especially with all the work you’ve put into it.

Keep your dad's truck and save up to buy another one, if you really need the 4x4. It may take you along time, but the connection with your dad and your present truck can never be replaced. But it can be regretted when you loose it forever!
