The truck has a sticker on the back from a Kia dealership, so it more than likely has had at least two owners.
    [/QUOTE]
Does that mean someone traided this amazing truck... For a Kia!?!?!? I will never understand some people.

I had to drive the woman to work post her acl surgery. From the burbs to downtown chicago. I never regretted the shifting. To each their own. We all have different knees

l usually don't mind either. But l had a 30 mile commute one way. With no traffic it took 40 - 45 minutes. With traffic 1 1/2 hours one way. On many occasions in winter, I've spent 2 1/2 hrs getting home, or going to work. I just couldn't take it anymore, unfortunately. I still miss shifting my own gears. As far as I'm concerned it's a much better driving experience. (mostly).
One day I'll get another stick :burnrubber:

Sometimes I do buy smaller items for my truck from the dealer, and you'd think "2010 Tacoma regular cab 2WD" would be a good enough description. Nope! The service desk guy always asks for my VIN; Like I'm really going to memorize that shit? I can tell you that it starts with "5TEN and that's about it. I always end up forcing the guy to look up my truck based on specs rather than VIN, and it goes fine.

Right now I need the "Jesus clip" for my left window crank, and tomorrow I'm going to see if the dealer has just that part before buying the whole thing (window crank and all) on Amazon. I guarantee you the guy will ask for my VIN, and I also guarantee that the window crank design did not changed one iota between 2005 and 2014.

I think there are production dates like produced after November 12 vs before November, just as an example.

The vin may narrow it down to make sure you get the right part if the part your buying was part of a recall or TSM*.

Maybe by letting them input your vin in now and again it will bring up something your not aware of.

And lastly why not look up the part yourself to insure you get the right part? If the part #’s are different you can ask why.

Entering the VIN in the system will ensure whatever part you are looking for will fit your vehicle. Some years within the same generation vehicle can have different parts. Sure they ask for the year, trim level, & engine size when applicable but usually the parts catalog will show all the parts available for whatever generation rather than for specific years.

I used to wonder the same thing & while most parts are the same for all years for a generation, some things aren't. My parts guy only asks me for the VIN when multiple variations of a part shows up. Still I don't supply the VIN, I just look at the screen & tell them which one I need.

I've worked in the automotive field a long time. Having the VIN helps when looking for parts.
I took a picture with my phone of the VIN tag that's inside the driver door. Whenever I go into the parts department, I give the parts guy my phone before I even tell him what I need.
If there are other parts I need that the truck didn't come with (fog lights, etc.) I tell him so he doesn't use the VIN.

Vin narrows down parts. It’s got everything down to the trim model. If you give him the vin he doesn’t have to ask a billion questions that most people don’t know the answer to. You would be surprised how many people don’t know the year, make, model, or engine size to their vehicle. Hell, I’ve had some people not even know the color of their car.

Yep. What year is your car? "2004. Oh wait, no, I think it's a '94."
