I am asking this for two reasons...

    1. I am pondering installing an alarm system, as my base model RC did not come with an alarm or engine immobilizer from the factory (If my truck is not easy to steal, it's probably not worth the money).
    2. In the highly unlikely scenario of a catastrophic event where I need to GTFO and I've misplaced my keys...

I actually love not having a chipped key, because I can get spares made at the hardware store for like two bucks!

No, it took about 5 months to find it. By that time I was already in my 17. Insurance bought it.

Back in the day, horse theft was punishable by death; Nowadays, if somebody gives a car thief a well-deserved beating, they go to jail!

Nope, they added a bedside sticker the.. TX pro one and changed the nerf bars from chrome to black. Otherwise unscathed. 2 people were caught out in the lancaster/ Bakersfield area. They pulled into a warehouse/industrial place and there were like 6 other stolen tacos there

One time a drunk ran up to my truck and started pounding on the hood becaus I beeped at him for standing in the middle of a public road with his friends (If I hadn't been on the clock, and in front of the bar where I worked, I would given that prick a black eye). Luckily, however, I'm not aware of anybody attempting to steal my truck.

The issue we see most with "older" Toyotas and Hondas is not hotwiring. Hell, no one really does that anymore. It's use of a shaved key to start the vehicle - it works as the ignition tumblers get worn with years and years of use, and a sloppy fitted key will get them to line up. A 2010 is towards the new side of that but depending on the wear on your ignition it's certainly possible.

On another note, my key will unlock the drivers’s door but no longer lock it. Door must be locked from inside.

On this note, some of the guys in the :canada: section have been talking about security.

I am planning to get this system installed.

2 minutes or less with a hacksaw and your truck will be gone

A pro will do it in 15 seconds, per cut of the steering wheel. You can set it to lock onto 2 sections of the wheel when turned.

So now they have to get that off, THEN start my truck. Each thing that takes longer makes your vehicle less desirable to take.

As I said, its for my own sanity. To help me feel better.

If my truck has that stupid thing, and another taco parked beside me does not. Maybe they will go for the one without it, maybe. It is just a deterrent. You cant stop someone who wants to take your truck.
