If it were me, I'd also change the fuel filter to have an external one that can be serviced ever 20-30k.

    Too few to list.
Leave it to Toyota to now have to either take the bed off or drop the tank in order to do this. I'm getting the URD kit just because I like to have a serviceable fuel filter and have better flow as well.

Straight legal insurance talk the driver is responsible for the accident not the vehicle owner. That does not stop somebody from trying. My guess the mother has nothing to take and the son does. They are hitting the deep pockets.

I always think before I let people drive my truck...

I have one friend who has epilepsy. Years ago, he had a seizure behind the wheel, crashed into a telephone pole, and totaled his Trailblazer. He had bruising from the airbag but was unharmed. His license was suspended for six months and had to be seizure-free during that time. In 2010ish, he blacked out behind the wheel of his Plymouth minivan, drifted out of his lane, and hit a woman in a Honda Civic head on. Both vehicles were totaled, the driver of the Civic had to be helicoptered to the hospital, and my friend fractured his jaw. Insurance covered everything. Even though this was not a seizure, it was still regarded as a medical condition and he lost his license for six months. As a result of my friend's condition, very few insurance companies will cover him. What happens is that he will be seizure-free for years at a time, have one episode, and then lose his license. The cycle will begin all over again. What's lucky is that he hasn't had a seizure behind the wheel in almost a decade, but obviously I would never allow him to drive my truck.

FYI, the reason he had an old Plymouth Grand Voyager is because the van had been in his family since his dad bought it new in 1997 or 1998. His dad died of a heart condition and left him the van in his will, so he had a great deal of sentimental attachment to the thing.

This is a lot of people I know (my parents included) get a separate insurance policy for their kids as soon as it is affordable to do so.

Also, I had one accident in 2013 that was deemed to be 50/50 by my insurance company, and one in 2015 where a drunk driver hit me that was totally his fault. In both cases, the other party was a scumbag who tried to scam me out of thousands.

It doesn't sound like they are trying to sue him personally, they're suing his insurance company because it was his vehicle and insured under his name. If they tried to sue the lady driving it they probably wouldn't get very much. Go after the insurance company and you'll get a bigger payout. Or maybe they're planning to do both considering it was a fatal accident (sad stuff). Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I see it

Also, on another note, a friend of mine was renting an apartment and the building burned down. I forget what exactly caused the fire but I believe it was electrical. Either way, it was ruled accidental and the insurance company paid out, but they were not happy about it.

The insurance company was so butt-hurt that they had to (GASP!) pay to rebuild the apartment building, that they went after my friend for like $200K and attempted to sue her. Luckily, my friend had a really good lawyer and essentially told them to kindly go fuck themselves, and the matter was dropped.

My guess is the mother is not on the insurance policy and the son doesn't have any type of umbrella policy covering other drivers. If that's the case hos insurance company wouldn't pay out for an accident caused by the mon, meaning you would have to sue the son for any type of restitution.

That sucks, insurance companies get sued all the time it's pretty much just a part of their operating plan lol. That's in part why we pay them so much.

I don't think I have an umbrella policy, but in my policy it says that any licensed driver is allowed to drive my truck with my permission.

Insurance follows the car not the driver.
He is the owner, it’s his policy, and when the limits are maxed they will go after the insurance policy of the driver.
When that’s maxed, they will go after both the driver and owner for additional exposure.

This is pretty common practice, when there is a suit and a limits issue, it will name everyone possible under the sun, and hope to get a little bit from everyone.

Ah my bad yeah I meant as far as them having to pay out to rebuild the complex. They have to do that kind of stuff all the time it's why we get insurance on things like that. Sucks they went after her though but just like anyone else, insurance is looking for a way out of paying or a way to get their money back.

I dont know about Pennsylvania but in some states you are prohibited from directly filing suit against the insurance company and have to go after the individual.

Back in the early 2000s, my personal trainer was run off the road by a guy in a truck who fled the scene. Her Nissan Sentra have over two grand in damage, and Progressive made it seem as though they were paying to fix the Sentra without raising her rates. However, the following year, her insurance bill had been raised by the exact amount it had cost to fix the car. She switched insurance providers immediately and, needless to say, refuses to ever do business with Progressive again!

This is why people hate insurance companies lol. We're made to think they'll have our backs when we need them but in reality they'll find some way to recoup what they had to spend when you do end up needing them.

My dad has worked for Farmers corporate office his entire 30+ year career, and he has nothing good to say about insurance companies lol.

I got hit by a drunk driver in October 2015. It was a piece of shit 70-year old man who'd killed someone while driving drunk in the 1980s. Despite the fact that he was arrested and got a DUI, his insurance company still believed his story that I'd run a stop sign. My insurance company, USAA, paid to fix my truck. They waived the deductible and did not raise my rates, but because my truck was over two years old, it was their policy to cut corners wherever possible. They used "aftermarket parts" whenever and wherever they could, and as a result I got stuck with an "aftermarket" rear bumper.

Also, my insurance company and Sir Drinks-A-Lot's insurance company went to court and still couldn't agree who was at fault, so they were to "draw"...

This meant my insurance company ate the cost of fixing my Tacoma, and his ate the cost of replacing his totaled Mercedes. I say again, this prick was a repeat offender who was convicted of DUI!

    OME and worth every penny.
While this is true I always thought it was the silliest thing in automotive manufacturing I'd ever heard.
Not every other engine having each nor any other engine having both. Just weird for us.
