I have the 4.0 I’m expecting about 200k also. I think I’m at about 120k now. Just like the last post said keep all your fluids clean fix anything that comes up right away. That’s about the best you can do. I know there is stuff about super high mileage but I would be surprised as hell if this truck rolled to 300k without some kind of serious problem.

They are betting you will get a new vehicle before the battery dies. Also what is “their” definition of dead battery needing replacement under warrenty.

    You mean yours?

I once saw a 2005-2007ish 4.0L DCSB 4x4 with 275K on a supposedly original engine for over twelve grand!

Yeah, they will be in for an unpleasant surprise if they think I'm getting a new vehicle anytime soon. I'm saving up for a house! The Tacoma is paid off and needs absolutely nothing right now! Would you buy a new vehicle?

This dealer gives 10% discounts for 100K miles, 20% discounts for 200K miles, and 30% discounts for 300K miles. I am Mr. Consumer Reports when it comes to getting the truck worked on. If the dealer offers a better price than my ex-Volvo tech independent mechanic, I will go with the dealer...

I bring my truck to three different places:

Thompson Toyota for state inspection, warranty/recall work...

Pete (former Volvo mechanic) for oil changes and other routine maintenance...

Mavis Discount Tire for, well, tires; Because literally nobody else in town can get me a set of Cooper Discoverer AT/3s for less than $500!

If they put the 5.7L in the 3rd Gen, I'll buy one!

That is correct. I converted it to 4WD (about 90k miles ago). Added a bunch of steel armor and 33’s. It feels like it constantly struggling. So like I said, I’d be surprised if it makes to 300k.

Yeah, mine's had a pretty easy life...

Even with factory 3.58 gears and a 4-speed slushbox it's fairly quick for what it is!

Uhhh. Mines a turtle. I have 4.88’s and it can barely climb a small incline at highway speeds.

Is that with the A/C on or off? Mine has no problem keeping up with 75-80 MPH highway traffic, in the middle of a heatwave, with the air on...

My gas mileage is utterly atrocious with the A/C on (16-18 MPG), but I have no complaints about acceleration.

Stumbled across this today - my 1997 had a 5VZFE V6. Only brakes, radiator, starter in 313K miles. Yep it was a five lug...

Did you turn a profit? And did you actually get it retitled in Cali?

I hope I make it that far but it just seems like an unrealistic expectation. My 95 Corolla is at 167k and still going gotta love Toyota

No, I broke even. I registered it in Vermont since I bought the truck as parts only, as is-where is. Missing California title.

New owner managed to register it in Nevada no issue with a brand new title and tags from those Vermont papers I provided with the sale.

I thought the 2.7L 4 bangers are the workhorse engines and pretty much last forever in 2nd/3rd world places like africa and south america. I have a lower mileage '98 with 138k miles. The only thing it's ever needed was a starter motor.
