I run full synthetic, change every 5k cause that’s what I like, I start and stop a dozen times a day. Waste of time to do oil analysis, just change every 5k to 7500 and you be fine. To many people make oil changes way to to flipping hard. If you change full synthetic every 5k-7500 I don’t care how you drive or how many times you turn off and start you truck every day, you’ll be just fine. Quit fretting over something so simple. FYI I’ve put over 350k on 4 Toyota trucks following this and never once needed an analysis to tell me when to change it.

Lots of stop and go traffic, lots of starts and stops of the engine, winter weather, etc? Change it around 5k.

Cruising slow back highways in perfect weather and starting it very rarely. 7.5-10k will do ya.

You know there’s also this little metal stick thingy you can look at the end of and see what the oil is looking like to help indicate some things and stuff or whatever. :)

You just missed the Mobil1 rebate all summer. 5 gals for 50 bux after rebate.

Supertech is good oil. Used it for years 'til Mobil1 became cheaper than conventional.

I checked my oil the other day and it looked surprisingly light brown considering it had almost 7K miles on it.

I'd stay in the middle at 7.5-8k. I do my 4.0 6 speed's oil at 5k with conventional oil, but since you're using synthetic I bet you can do another 2500-3000 miles depending on how hard you drive it. Oil is cheap compared to shortening the life of your engine if you go too long between changes.

Really if you can still see through it to the dipstick (just a rule of thumb, analysis is better) there's (probably) still life in it. Don't freak people, I said rule of thumb.

Luckily you have a well maintained known-to-be-reliable engine that you know hasn’t been abused or neglected. That right there will do a million times more than changing oil at a few thousand miles difference. That 4 banger will likely go for another few hundred thousand miles at least. So keep doing what you’re doing and you should be good for the next 25 years or so..

Probably could. I’ve got a different old school one I’ve used for 15 years, can’t believe it still holds up. Must have done upwards of 100 engine and gear oil changes in it, if you include my cheap ass friends that won’t buy a $10 oil drain pan.

That's like 62 thousand miles, right?

Had a job once where the guy forced every vehicle to change oil every 3 months, religiously. Didn’t matter if it was an F-250 or a Corolla. All vehicles every three months.

I tried to explain that the corolla they gave me never got driven and didn’t need an oil change, or that I would pay the extra for synthetic (he was old school and would only use conventional ha) and he just had these hard and fast rules that couldn’t be broken.

didn’t mean to derail but it was pretty funny (probably not for the business who’s money he was wasting).

OP, my brother’s 2015 Honda Fit has a little gauge that supposedly tells you when to change the oil. It has low “oil life” and recommends changing every 7.5-8k in the winter and usually every 8-10k in the Summer when I was road tripping with it.

So for what it’s worth your engine is also a 4 cylinder but also a larger one pushing a larger vehicle. I have no clue if that thing is accurate or not but I would feel safe at 7k, not so great about 10.

It's an oil thread. No time for facts. Only opinions here.

I think I'm going to get it changed this week; Don't know if I will change it myself or not.
