We traded it for a new Honda Odyssey in 2004, and even with less than 36K miles it sat on the lot for almost two months and ended up going to auction...

 

From there, it went to Maryland (2004-2007; not a surprise since we traded it in Virginia), back to Virginia (2007-2009; though it only stayed in NoVa while in dealer inventory and ended up quite far from where we lived), to West Virginia (2009), and then to Ohio (2009-2015????) where the trail goes cold...

 

Grundy is in Appalachia...

 

On to the Buckeye State...

 

I believe that something expensive broke, and that our old van has more than likely been sitting in someone’s yard since 2015...

My best friend used to be in this band where the other three members were guys in their sixties and seventies (he was a little under 30 when he joined). He ended up leaving for numerous reasons, including the fact that they always booked gigs at dive bars that allowed smoking (I stopped going to their gigs largely for this reason). The drummer was an Air Force Veteran, and he and his wife did not have a lot of money. They had a mortgage and an adult son living at home, and I believe the drummer worked the parts counter at a Chevy dealership. Money was tight, and I sympathize with them for that. One of their vehicles was a 2001 (I think) Chevrolet Astro LS AWD that they'd bought used when it was a few years old. By the time I met the band in about 2012, the van was pretty well-used. It had rust, the A/C didn't work, and it had well over 100K miles, but it still ran; The guy used it to transport his drum kit to gigs, among other things.

In maybe 2017 or so, the engine went (I forget exactly what was wrong with it, but I believe coolant started mixing with oil) and got damaged from overheating if I remember correctly. The drummer wanted to just put a new engine in it, but air-conditioner did not work and the van needed some other work to pass inspection, so he ended up buying a used Chrysler Town & Country to replace it. Meanwhile, the van remained immobile in the driveway. I had mentioned in passing at one of these gigs a while back that I wanted to buy a "4WD beater" to drive in the winter, and save my near-mint 5-lug Tacoma from the rough and salty roads of Pennsylvania. However, I wanted a running winter beater, not one that required either an engine rebuild or an entirely new engine! Regardless, the drummer took this comment as meaning that I wanted to give him $400-$500 for his van; He continually hounded me about buying it, on Facebook no less. It got so bad that I eventually blocked him from seeing my posts, because he was leaving unsolicited comments about buying his van on unrelated posts. I also talked to my same-age friend who played rhythm guitar in the band, and I believe he talked to him. Eventually, the drummer gave up. The van sat a bit longer, and nobody wanted to buy it. The drummer had a nicer, newer van and didn't want to pay to fix the Astro, so he sold it for scrap...
